Aroma is malty and nutty, sweet but not over the top. Flavor is initially sweet and malty, followed up by hazelnut and caramel. Full bodied and very smooth. Best brown I ever had. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2005 Gorgeous, dark brown color, light brown head, with fine bubbles. Aroma is slighly sweet and of toasted nuts. And the initial flavor is a caramelly-chocolatey version of the same nutty aroma. Lightly bitter finish. My new favorite beer. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 21, 2004 Not an ale, or even a beer, but "nectar", eh? Only Rogue has the moxie to pull that off, and pull it off, they do!
Color is a perfect brown, reddish at the sides. Solid, thick, bubbly tannish head. Aroma is swimming in nuts, completely nutty, call the boys in white coats with the butterfly nets..this ale is totally nuts!! A touch of cocoa in the nose, also, but the hazelnut is king of the castle here.
On the palate: buzzing with hops, lush, full maltiness, medium to full body. This one rare brown ale that is brimming over with character! Persistently smooth and satisfying, with a late fruitiness that shows up in the finish.
Another winner from the reliable Rogue stable!

It’d been a while since I had one, so I had to drink one to rate it. I almost forgot how tasty this Rogue is! This is the best brown ale there is. Smooth, rich, delicious. Go get one. no wait, don’t, leave them for me to drink! Rastacouere (5561), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2003 Updated: Dec 5, 2003Very deep brown body with a perfect 2 inch tan head, rocky, with small and regular bubbles, fine lacing and lasting. Sweet nose, chocolate mainly with hints of maple and coffee. The taste is pretty malty, sweet, surprisingly very fresh with loads of nice flavors among which none really stood out, but honey, chocolate, milk, nuts, toffee, caramel, coffee, maple, rich cookies. Soft, creamy and chewy palate. Tremendous malt/hops balance, more on the malt size, but hops is noticeable, especially toward the finish where I noticed a woody/herbal hops flavor and a roastiness that added to the complexity. Great bursting vanilla aftertaste. Lovely beer which I'm frightened I won't be able to get a crack at near often enough living up here:(
Two thumbs up to JoeT for this great desert. MaBeer1972 (421), Leominster, Massachusetts, USA

Flavors are nutty with also coffee and caramel. No harsh aftertaste. Impressive. EdPaulsen (117), Kansas City, Missouri, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 12, 2004 Pours with a one-finger head that fades quickly to a ring leaving no lace. Deep, clear amber color. Low carbonation. Nose is a light malt. Light bodied which is surprising for a brown. Starts malty and then the hazelnut kicks in - very nice. The ABV is 8.8%. $4.60 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.
