Pours a nut brown color with minimal head. Flavors of hazelnut, honey and hops. A tad sweet but not overlydone. Nicely balanced flavors and a smooth aftertaste of toffe candy. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA

Nice, sweet, malty aroma of roasted nuts and hints of chocolate. Flavor is more of the malty sweet roasted-nut flavor. Some alcohol blended in nicely at mid-glass, all which contributed to a good long finish. I’m normally not a fan of brown ales, but I really enjoyed this one. JAF737300 (797), Tampa, Florida, USA

It pours deep brown and shows the nutty notes of hazelnut pretty lighly on the nose and then a bit deeper on the mouthfeel. The balnce of hops and malt make this a fine example of how to use flavors. ilovedarkbeer (1367), Dallas, Texas, USA

Tastes very thick and sticky with a pretty potent taste of hazelnuts and chocolate. Nose is nutty and of chocolate, cream, and brown sugar. Taste is coffee like and nutty with a bit of an awkward aftertaste. Nice silk and thick mouthfeel. Not bad but it is much better on tap than in the bottle. eaglefan538 (2401), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

The hazlenut approach was unique and pleasant, just phenomenal. Appearance was crystal clear ruby brown with a small head and minimal lacing. The aroma was strong hazelnuts with some chocolate behind it. Flavor was dry hazelnuts, with a sweet dark malt base (chocolate?). Mouthfeel light to moderate for the style. After two tastings of this, man, I’m impressed. One of the best nut browns around. unclemattie (2438), Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Pours a new "castle brown ale" color with a nose of fresh honey, hazelnut, white chocolate and caramel, and even vanilla ice cream. The taste is superb, the color is nice, but the smell is a bit odd. This is something worth trying at least once, if not more. I could see this becoming a monthly purchase. This is among the better brown ales I have had. I guess the only thing I would change if I could is the use of less chocolate malt and more focus on the hazelnut extract. Then again, this is a fine beer. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA

The aroma has an obvious hazelnut note drifting above sweet and roasty malt. Flavor is much the same, with roasted barley and chocolate setting the foundation for a rich nuttiness that is thankfully not overpowering. Dry finish, smooth on the palate. Really easy to drink.
