Great mouthfeel, rich and purposeful, albeit easy to drink. Very aromatic beer, with molasses, coffee, wood, pine, nuts, and of course, a lot of hazelnut notes. The beer seems pretty well-balanced with a deep sweetness against a "roasty" bitterness. Its finish is great; really nice lasting flavors. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2004 Tasted in Colorado. Obtained from a beer store in Dillon. Tasted in a shaker glass. Appearance is dark with mud like opaqueness. Thin brown/tan coloured head. Aroma has a sweet nuttiness with many layers of subtle complexity. Flavour is of intense sweet hazelnut. Very satisfying - an intense form of a standard nut brown ale. I enjoy this one very much. radiomgb (2031), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 11, 2004 Dark brown in colour. Aroma was almost non-existent at first but as it warmed I noticed some sweetness, caramel and chocolate. Flavour had loads of caramel and chocolate - like the galaxy caramel chocolate bar - very smooth, cream, and a fair amount of sweetness. Finish is a very smooth creamy rich bitterness. Fantastic. Thanks beerhugger for sharing this bottle with me. Gunshy (479), Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2002 Updated: Apr 4, 2003This beer poured out a nice very dark amber color with a tan head, that did subside with some lace. Nice faint malt smell to it. Slight hazelnut smell to it, some coffee aroma to it. The flavor is what hits you. Because of the hazelnut, you would have to put this not only as a brown ale, but a spice beer. The hazelnut taste was very good and quite pronounced. It was so heavy with that taste, you wonder if that adds to the body to it as well as the mouthfeel. Good flavor, but the strong hazelnut and carmel aspects to this might throw some. Worth checking out.

Chocolate, toffee and hazelnut aroma and flavors. All flavors get richer as it warms. Very nice balance of sweet malts and a slight hoppy finish. This is one tasty brew! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 6, 2003 I've had this a few times and never bothered to rate it. Brown, transluscent, with a moderate sized brown head. Aroma is nutty, brown sugar, and prunes. Sweetness is somewhat balanced with the hops bitterness. Sweet finish. Great Brew! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 25, 2003 Deep rich nutty brown color with a big, dense dusty brown head. A big, full nose, lots of complexity for sure. Sweet and malty with lots of chocolate, some grains and a light nutty character, of course. Well roasted malts stand out in the mouth, caramely and chocolatey, full of body and character. Exceptional balance. A dry roastey, dark chocolatey finish. Pale yellow, medium sized head and a deep red body. Nose and flavour of caramel, malt, oak and whiskey. Very delicious. Many thanks to MartinT for graciously picking this up for me on one of his roadtrips to the southland...
