Commercial Description:
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.
Measurements: 26 degrees Plato, IBU 87.5, Apparent Attenuation 77, Lovibond 258

2007 ceramic rated in 2008. Black with nice thick foam. Choc. expresso with nice hop finish. Roasted nuts in a field (actual nuts, not the insane). Earthy. For 11% abv, its not too alcoholic. Hay,fig. Thick palate, not syrupy. Even placement for so many strong tastes. One of the top 3 from Rogue.(Brutal Bitter & Choc. Stout)

2008 ceramic XS collector’s release. Pours opaque black into the glass, with a large brown foamy head that leaves a nice cap, and ringed lace (like the bias of an oak tree) sticks beautifully down the snifter, sip by sip. Nice bouquet of vinous notes, roasts, and smoky dark chocolate. Rich and luscious, bittersweet, semi-sweet and baker’s chocolates combine nicely with smoky roasted malts and rich black coffee beans. There is a perfectly balanced bitter pine back that finishes the pull quite well. The ABV is well-hidden in all of the complexities at work. I’m a huge fan of Impy stouts, and this did not disappoint. A very nice example of sweetness contrasting with a bold bitter at work. Soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel make this is certainly one of my best XS-release experiences. Nice job.

Drank it during Eurocup Final 2008. La Furia Española are the Champions!! Sorry ghawener. Wow again!! Pours pitch black with a nice tan head. Heavy bodied, almost syrupy. Intense flavors of coffee, dark chocolate, all perfectly balances with a great smokiness.

The beer pours a deep total opaque black with a thick creamy brown head that is so thick I could write my name in it. The head leaves a thick brown lacing the nose is lightly acidic with toasted malts, a little hoppy bitterness and coffee notes. The taste is roasted; roasted malts, roasted coffee, bitter sweet chocolate and a light note of acid. The finish is long bitter and roasty.
