(Like any other imperial stout, honestly.) Flavor is of rich sweet caramel malt with a strong roasted and alcohol taste, a little hot but not overwhelming. Appearance is deeeeeep and dark. mouthfeel is a little sharp on the tongue, but then wanes for the most part. Malt sweetness lingers a bit, sort of chewy. Overall, good but nothing that stands out to me as great. Very much like Moylan’s Imperial Stout: good and balanced but not spectacular. Solid.

Anyways, the beer pours a deep black with a deep brown head. Aroma shows some warmth, vanilla, chocolate, liquorice, anzac biscuits and some floral hops show through. Fantastic aroma!
Not over the top in the body, nice smooth mouthfeel. Heavy chocolate dominates the flavour, which is followed by an assertive bitterness. Long warm mocha/rum finish. Pretty solid, but nothing outstanding for an imperial stout. michael-pollack (2719), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured pitch black in color with a large, creamy, rocky, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Spectacular lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and slightly sweet. Tastes of roasted and burnt malts, light tobacco, slight tar, slight soy sauce, hops, and slight chocolate. Medium body. Smooth, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Medium bitter, roasted malt, hop, slight tobacco, and slight tar finish is dry. 11.6%ABV is completely hidden throughout. A GREAT RIS. jeff789 (411), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a big head sustained with nice lacing, very appealing... burnt roasty aroma with chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, many different aromas at once, not at all muddled, very complex... Flavors just dont translate cohesively, very muddled, with an odd medicinal finish, very burnt... medium full bodied... Wish the aroma would have translated to the flavor.. waltersrj (46), Washington, USA

The nose is roasted hops, caramel, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of roasted coffee and leather. The taste is similar with anise, licorice, and some bitter hops. The palate is thick as expected and delicious. Very nice impy stout. rustychiles (1058), Mesa, Arizona, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 As Rogue XS Imperial Stout, 11%, 750 ml stone bottle from Total Wine & More, Roseville. Pours a liquidy dark brown, opaque, with a large light brown head. Aroma is hoppy, then reveals a little chocolate. Pleasant aroma, though not too profound or complex. Flavor is again hoppy, but now there’s a lot more complexity: Ashy, tarry, and leathery, the flavor has resiny coffee bean oils, a little anise/licorice, and the bitter hops are always present. A little bit of tangerine peel comes around at the end. Burnt finish. Thinner viscosity for the style. Oily, less-carbonated palate. I was expecting something a little sweeter, not for better or for worse though. High quality impy. Not world class, but nice. Overall, excellent. TheEpeeist (1474), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Nose is coffee, molasses and musty chocolate. Medium to full body with faint carb. Sticky and oily. Taste is dark chocolate, caramel, grapefruit and pine. Nice balance still retaining a substantial hop bite with a licorice finish.
