Sampling Notes:
Served chilled in glass.
Near opaque black body with dense tan head that dies down to a thick layer leaving good lace.
Aroma is packed with roasted malts; dark chocolate, roasted nuts, freshly brewed coffee, in particular.
Full-bodied, carbonation moderately-low, smooth syrup-like texture. Particularly drying astrigency, but not over powering or bitter.
Plenty of upfront bitter chocolate and strong coffee on the body. Sweetened by some toffeeish malts and vinous dark fruits. Lingering finish, coffee keeps on going for a good while.
Very nice porter. Good balance of bitterness, malt sweetness and roasted grain flavours. Though I was expected authentic chocolate/coffee...oh well! peter48er (161), Liverpool, Merseyside, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Poured very dark, almost black, with a distinct creamy head which lasted well down the glass. Aroma and taste was of toasted coffee (!) with a lingering but not at all unpleasant bitterness. An altogether well rounded and very drinkable beer. Cavie (1482), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Light chocolate aroma, slightly toasted. Tingley mouthfeel that slightly coats. Flavor consists of chocolate notes mixed with bitter flavors. It has an easy finish as well with no aftertaste. Fairly well done. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 7, 2009 Nice coffee and toasty aroma, with a hint of chocolate. Opaque pour with nice tan head, good carbonation. Flavor has plenty of chocolate but a hoppiness I have never encountered in a porter. Roasted walnuts and coffee beans round out the flavor. Fairly creamy and medium bodied palate. Enjoyed. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 7, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Deep brown color with a big, fluffy tan head. Roasted malt and coffee on the nose. Medium high carbonation with the richer porter mouthfeel you would expect. True to it’s name, there are definitely chocolate and coffee notes on the palate. A little lingering bitterness but overall a great porter. I would definitely buy this again. drfabulous (1268), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Light body. But you get enough chocolate to make it a decent beer. A bit over carbonated. Ok all around. doublebock (197), USA
