On draught at Yard House (West Palm, FL): Bitter chocolate and roasted toast (like that makes any sense). Anyway, I expected more complexity from Rogue. Drinkability: Thin chocolate however satisfying. Rebuy: Yes. #183 on 02112009, DG.

Poured a deep black with minimal amounts of an off-tan head. Nose is chocolate, and a decent amount of coffee. Taste is much the same with an added hint of roasted malts, and a somewhat piney aftertaste. The coffee also lingers on the tongue. This is an oily palette lingerer. Pretty decent beer.

Poured a nearly impenetrable black with a thick 2 finger head of a caramel color. Nice lacing on the glass. Head hangs for the duration. Smells of chocolate and only a slight hint of coffee. Also a bit smokey. You can almost smell the dryness. Taste is sweet and chocolaty. Bitterness of coffee and pine in the finish. Definitely charred malts. Very dry finish. Kinda watered down a bit. Mouthfeel is weak. Carbonation is light. Maybe could have used a bit more time on the shelf? Drinkability is pretty good. I could definitely make this a session drinker if it was being served all night. Although I would not choose this on purpose. I’m a bit disappointed with this one. I will try it again to see if I just got a bad bottle. No bottled on or best enjoyed by date to be found. I’m a fan of Rogue beers so I will actively see this beer to compare in the future.

RnH: Pours like a porter! (what did you expect?!) Looks like an opaque cola, pour left a very thin brown head. Nose is smokey and cooked, roasted malts, coffee, bitters... the taste is much of the same. Nothing unexpected here yet a very solid brew for the style.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and a touch of dark chocolate. Flavor is more of the same with a dry, coffee bitter finish. Pretty good.

Bottled 65cl. 5.3 ABV. Good head retention. Slight juniper and seaweed in the nose. Juniper accompanied by roasted malt and american hops in the taste. Nutty. Caramel showing up. True to the style. Long nutty finish. Nice.

Poured a very dark brown almost black color with a tall creamy light brown head. The head went down to just a film in just a few minutes, but it did leave some nice lacing. There was a strong aroma of dark chocolate and espresso and they were carried through to the flavor as well. A bit of smokiness was also in the flavor and a mild bitterness as well. The finish was slightly dry with the bitterness lingering on.

Delicious, Rich, Bold. Had some on tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours a black-brown with a creamy beige head. Nose is all burnt malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor reinforces the aroma, with some sweetness to balance the bitter, roasted malt backbone. Heavy mouthfeel. Smooth and creamy on the finish, this beer leaves a pleasant, rich, bitter, burnt flavor on the palette. Again, delicious.
