| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Nose of coffee, caramel, and roasted malts. Bittersweet chocolate, coffee, molasses, with a hint of bitterness and a dry finish. As it warmed up a little bit, a lot more of the aroma and flavors came through. A decent thick body with out too much carbonation. Pretty solid, as per usual from Rogue. StFun (534), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2008 Not terrible by a long shot, but still just slightly above average when it comes to coffee porters and stouts. As other have said, this one is a little on the thing side; small brownish head and just a hint of lacing. Aroma is fairly bland, just hints of chocolate and mocha. The taste is about what you’d expect, average. However, this one gets better as you drink it the coffee flavor comes through in the aftertaste, and so it stays on the palate longer, and flavors the rest of the beer. I would have this again, but wouldn’t seek it out. Atlove (36), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2008 Rogue Mocha Porter pours, thinly, a very dark brown with a fast disappearing brown head. Lots of great flavors: smooth malt, cocoa, espresso, and cream: all exceptionally balanced. The only real drawback is body, which feels a bit thin and watery--maybe I’ve been drinking too many stouts recently. Nice drinkable, session porter. illidurit (895), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Poured into a pint glass, this beer is dark brown with amber highlights. Cascading bubbles create a good sized head, however it is not very dense, resulting in subpar retention and zero lacing.
Cocoa powder and roastiness make up the aroma profile.
Taste is a bit watery, with some chocolate, a nice amount of roastiness, and a vague leafy hop bitterness in the finish. I kept expecting this to improve with warmth, but it never did.
Mouthfeel, again, is too watery. Carbonation is medium and on the fizzy side. Still a pretty smooth brew.
I have a feeling this is one of those beers that’s significantly better on tap. Not one of Rogue’s better efforts. DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Brown, quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma of cocoa and brown malts. Moderate body, chocolate, toffee, roasted coffee, minerals, slight bitterness. FlyingSwine (170), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2008 12 oz bottle in English Pint. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a decent sized tan head. Odd, musty aroma initially turned me off. I pressed on and received a nice surpise. Great roasty, chcolate flavor with just the right amount of hopping. Palate is thin, but according to style. Overall a very good Porter. Well done Rogue. Brewbie (228), New York, USA
