On draught at Yard House (West Palm, FL): Bitter chocolate and roasted toast (like that makes any sense). Anyway, I expected more complexity from Rogue. Drinkability: Thin chocolate however satisfying. Rebuy: Yes. #183 on 02112009, DG.

Clear, muddy color with a tan head. Toasted malty aroma with lots of coffee. Not really getting a true mocha scent, mostly just coffee. Taste has a high bitterness and very low sweetness. I would have preferred the opposite. Too dry in my opinion.

Bottle. Poured black with a chunky beige head. Left some lacing in my glass. Has a toasty, chocolate, slightly nutty aroma with a noticeable coffee presence. Flavor is roasted malt, a little bitter chocolate, a moderate amount of coffee, and a lingering bitter finish. Has a smooth feel, though it turns a little watery feeling at the finish. Gets better as it warms, I adjusted my rating up slightly after sipping this a while.

I was very pleased with this beer. I’m not a huge fan of coffee on its own, but this beer doesn’t over do it. Pours get black with a nice tan head. Aroma of coffee (obviously) chocolate. Strong roasted malts and a hoppy kick. I think the hops are little too strong, but as it warms up you don’t notice it as much. Still, I wish they had turned down the hops a bit. Could have been a stout for all that.

Draft at Dewey’s in Clifton. Pours a very dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma wasn’t particularly strong, maybe this was a bit too cold, but what was there was nice: mocha, chocolate, nuts, roasted malts, and vanilla. The flavor was the same, but stronger and with notes of hops and cream. Could have been smoother, as the carbonation had quite a bite. Light-medium bodied. Roasty finish. Good porter.

Drank it at home with my wife paired with delicious sea salt, chile dark chocolate. Pours dark brown with a light head. Light bodied, silky, well balanced with hops, chocolate taste.

A good porter with a nice balance of coffee and chocolate flavors. Easy to drink but quite filling
