PorterPounder (2853), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 8, 2002 Aroma of a fruit salad - very malty; appearance as murky brown as the Cuyahoga River in the ’70s before they cleaned it up. Flavor is that of sweet tobacco juice with fruit cocktail thrown in - bad way to describe it - but it is delicous and it hides the 10.5% alcohol well. Great late night - after dinner drink. Rogue comes through again!
Svesse (1821), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008) Dark reddish brown colour, cloudy, with brief beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, prunes and vinous alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, prunes, orange peel and loads of hops in a long, resiny finish. Very sweet and full bodied, but that is nicely balanced by all the hops. Thick, oily and powerful. Not for the faint hearted, but very warming. Great beer! Biddle_Brau (155), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Oct 1, 2008 2006 From the big .75 liter ceramic bottle shared with Mike C. Red copper color with off-white head. Rich malty and fruity aroma, typical of most barleywines. Alcohol is present right up front but diminishes after a few sips. Hops big in the aftertaste. As you drink this it becomes more balanced between hops and malt. Not as thick on the palate as other barleywines which tricks you into drinking this quicker. DanPain (10), beerland, United States Virgin Islands Sep 29, 2008 Very intense malty taste. Needs more time to age but i dont have the patience. Good to taste but wont be buying it again. darn1207 (335), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 on tap from rogue brewery in newport. dark yellow brown pour with almost no head at all. chocolate, raisins, nuts and caramel in the taste. seemed a fairly straightforward barley wine taste. light on the carbonation. seemed thinner maybe because of it - I’ll say medium palate. this was good and I liked it- but didn’t blow me away by any means. K7 Collint (349), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2008 Draft at Brewgrass 2008. American style Barley Wine. Pours a dark hazy amber with a thin brown head. Whoo 120 IBU’s, super hoppy beer with a clean bitter taste and the high alcohol finish. Pretty good interesting beer, i enjoyed the high bitterness in this one. Not something to drink all the time
