Commercial Description:
Rogue's annual holiday offering, Santa's Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

22 oz. at Greens on Ponce De Leon. Nice dark caramel brown; virtually no head. Looks pretty good for an amber; very dark for an amber ale. Nice subtle pine/citrus hop aroma! Very nice hop aroma. Nice floral hop aroma. This has to be one of the best hop aromas in an amber ale that I have ever smelled. Nice big hop malt profile. Nice subtle citrus hop flavor as well. The palate is very smooth for an amber. I think this is a well-rounded amber, and very good. Very much underrated by a lot of others. I have tried this many times and always thought it was great.

Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve is a crystal clear copper ale topped with a lumpy, yellowish foam that fades to a film and leaves fluff all over the glass. It smells like a Christmas tree with lots of fresh, resiny pine. It’s medium bodied, smooth and fluffy. he dry finish leaves the mouth a little bit sticky. It tastes similar to the aroma. It’s quite hoppy with notes of pine and resin. Grapefruit really surfaces in the aftertaste. his is an excellent example of what I’d call a red ale.

Nice beer overall. the beer is more like a Plae Ale than an Amber, imho. Anyway, the aroma is hoppy, piney and citrus, some caramel. The flavor very closely follows, with the hops in the lead. The appearance is a nice amber color, white head, slightly hazy. Mouthfeel is straight up the middle medium body, average carbonation. Citrus hop finish. Decent all around.

GREAT MARKETING SCHEME AND ONCE AGAIN GREAT ARTWORK/BOTTLING BY A GREAT BREWER.. THIS IS A CLOUDY REDISH COPPER ALE WITH A HOPPY BITTER TASTE AND AROMA. NOT BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER BY ITS FLAVOR ITS A PRETTY STANDARD MICRO BREWED HOPPY ALE, HOWEVER IT DRINKS QUITE EASY AND IS ENJOYABLE, ITS ALSO A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT FOR ANY BEER HEAD..

12 oz bottle Not bad but not outstanding an ale with a hint of spices pours a nice red with small head. A bit on the hoppy side with a sharp hit on the palate. The finish is better then the start and mellows out.

I thought I’d tried this before, but doubt that now. It wasn’t like anything I remember from Rogue. 12oz bottle from Fermentation Lounge. From my somewhat limited notes: Tea vibe. Nice light to medium texture. Not crazy complex but unique and very drinkable (especially if you like tea). Would definitely try again and update rating.

650 ml bottle. Pours an unclear copper color with a thin tan head. Taste is of malt, caramel, pine, hops and fruit. Strong dry and slightly bitter finish. Similar aroma. Thin, slightly slick body. The finish makes it a little hard to drink. Good, but not worth picking up again.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle - 2009 batch. It pours a mahogany brown color with nice clarity but little head. The aroma has a nice dose of floral hops, caramel and pine. The mouthfeel is of decent quality in the medium to heavy range. Bitter hops lead the advance on the taste with a touch of sweetness in the end. It has a lot of the qualities of a nice IPA.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with creamy laced head. A pleasant aroma and flavour of toffee, caramel, spicy and fruity hops. Good bitterness in mouthfeel. Sweet malty finish with one last kick of hops. Very nice. (RateBeer Sydney Xmas Gathering 2009)
