| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2009 Jet black, brilliant crema head that laces a good length down the side of the glass. I wasn’t sure what to expect, a bit of a nervous schoolboy fumbling the lid off. Nice mellow aroma that smelt like my grandads robe. A bit musty, aged and kinda just old-man ish. The flavours waft beautifully around your mouth a mix of dark malts, dark chocolate, coffee beans and then this wonderful burnt ashtray type finish with a flick of almost green hop to it. This was a treasure. gorditoabd (174), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2009 Bomber. Nice black coffee/chocolate pour, with a thick, foamy, brown sugar head at least 3 fingers and of decent duration. Caramel, chocolate, coffee, and anise are well blended in the aroma. Suprisingly sparkly and light mouthfeel, as well as a starkly light, almost watery taste. Have to remember this is a stout, not an imperial stout. It is a dry tasting beer, but thick in texture, a touch short on flavor. Not bad. Rciesla (3865), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 11, 2009 Bottle this was one of my go to stouts for a long time and a frequent recommendation amongst new craft beer drinkers. A black body with a tan head. Chocolate and sweet caramel, subtle and dry with a creamy body and roasted coffee beans. Ill keep my original rating for this one. dwaggs2 (563), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2009 Bottle. Poured a jet black with a two finger creamy head. Aroma was roasted flavors, and coffee. Flavor was roasted malts, coffee, and some bitters. Great beer. Great roasted flavor. Very well balanced beer. One of the better stouts. tokyogoat (576), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2009 Poured almost black with a perfect 2 fingers of a dark tan head.
Lacing just like you’d want to see.
Smelled like toasted oats and mocha.
The alcohol is not hidden, not a lot of alcohol, but its nice, kind of kicks your tastebuds into overdrive.
Perfectly balanced. Not too many flavors, but all are well represented, with the coffee and chocolate backing up the oats in a gang fight of awesomeness.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2009 Pours near black with light tan head.
Nose is hop dominated with espresso and maybe dark roasted coffee beans.
On the palate this ale is big and roasty, full flavored, with ample hops to stand up to the roasty flavors. Finishes bitter, but bitter in a good way.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | May 5, 2009 First impression was of coffee and a little chocolate on finish . As beer warmed, it gave off this unpleasant, dirty bitterness that ended up being too pervasive for the beer to be enjoyable. The apperance was spot on with a deep brown color and a lasting, though perhaps light, head. Palate was full and creamy with good carbonation (maybe a little much). Overall, enjoyed it at a colder temperature, but just had too much of muddy taste when it warmed up.
