Pours a pure black with just a hint of brown. A review won’t do the mix of flavors justice. Starts with a strong coffee with a touch of something, maybe licorise? Hints of chocolate and earth. I liked this one, and it is a thumbs up if you like a good stout beer. ditmier (1091), Boise, Idaho, USA

Not really overwellming oats flavor. Good smell, but again not overwellming. Smooth palate and an overall great stout from Rogue. halstokes (16), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 14, 2008 A pretty nice stout but it has the same problem as all other Rogue beers. To me the aftertaste is needlessly bitter. Yeah it’s full flavored, but when the strong flavor it bitter you wish is wasn’t so full flavored ysusi (10), Mexico, Mexico
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Really dark brown colored, no light goes through. Creamy beige head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and some vanilla. Tastes like dark chocolate, burnt malts. Pretty close to full-bodied. Strong espresso finish. Great dry stout. badbeer (433), Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2008 Poured a nice black color with a tan colored head leaving pretty good lacing. Smell was roasty, chocolate-y, and hoppy as well. Taste was full of chocolate upfront, followed by a roasty and hoppy finish. Mouthfeel was a little less than full bodied, with medium carbonation. Certainly a good beer worth a visit once in a while, I just don’t seem to pick it up that often. Pretty much a must try, and should be widely available enough, that this is no problem.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 4, 2008 A dark brown pour, quick building tan head. Smells like a fine iced coffee. The coffee notes trump the chocolate and chicory. Some maltiness more hop character. Very good, probably my 2nd favorite Rogue after the chocolate stout. HonkeyBra (1342), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasty with chocolate and coffee notes. Smooth chocolate malt taste with a hoppy finish. The balance is absolutely perfect. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, body is a tad thin and there is a lot of carb. Overall, awesome stout.
