| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2008 On tap. Pours an opaque black with dark mahogany hints around the edges. Served with a dense one-finger tan head that showed very good retention and lacing. This one looked quite nice. Smell is dominated by sweet roasted chocolate malts with strong coffee aromas. There was also a noticeable hop aroma in the background. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the strong bitter hop presence up front in this one which quickly gave way to the big malty chocolate and coffee taste. Hint of dark fruits gave way to the slightly bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is really nice on this - very creamy for such a medium bodied stout and a small amount of carbonation. This was an excellent stout for me and it surpassed my expectations honestly. I don’t know if I could drink more than one in an evening, but that one was damn good. Tastes of roasted malt and coffee with bitter chocolate finish, nothing very sweet here. Very close to having a bit of licorice in flavor. Medium palate with creamy mouthfeel and good carbonation; very drinkable.
