Beautiful head-tan, silky, fine, with black beer. Aroma: chocolate, hops, roasted malt, coffee, big all around. Flavor: wood, coffee, chocolate, burnt malt and hop finish, harsh, yet deeply rich and flavorful. Not my favorite style of beer, but it is great.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 12, 2009 22oz. Bottle. Pretty much black with a lasting tan head. The aroma has some sweeter malt with a more acrid, almost chalky roasted character and light hops.
Medium-dry flavor with some caramel fighting to get out over the burnt roast flavor. Minerally with a metallic bitter finish. A little sharp in the mouth. Robust for a regular stout but not really close to their imperial. larryLSB (150), La Selva Beach, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Poured from 22 oz. Dark brown with large tan head. Nose of coffee, milk chocolate.. The taste was bitter, coffee mostly with a bit of malt. A bit on the thin side for a stout, but good tasting. Nice, dry finish, not on the sweet side. Macadem (101), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Pours motor oil black with a thin, brown head. There is no subtlety to the hops when drank young, they seem to dominate the aroma. The taste is quite bitter, mostly chocolate and oats. If left to age i could see this beer becoming decidedly better, but never brilliant. matthewjk (67), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

I have since moved onto bolder, but seldom better stouts. finol (494), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden

Nice chocolate and hop aroma, Unfourtunately the very sharp carbonation destroys the potential. hirigalzkar (570), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 28, 2009 Bottle. Boring, boring stout. Tastes old coffee and sausage. Way too carbonated. daleharshman (191), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2009 Bomber from Mission Valley Bevmo ($5.89). Pours an almost pitch black with only a little light shining through around the edges. The finger and a half of mocha colored head soon subsides to only a thin layer. Moderate aroma of roasted malts, wood, and some chocolate/coffee accents. Flavor of mildly roasted malt, wood, earthiness (as in dirt), and some coffee. Some very dark chocolate emerges late, contributing (along with noticeable hops) to a bitter finish. A bit light for my tastes, but still quite good.
