Flavor was rich and deep, filled with chocolate, espresso, malts, and a nice finish of hops to round it all out. I waited a long time to try this one, and it didn’t disappoint. beerlord (215), tonawanda, New York, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2007 650 ml. bottle. Pours as black as used motor oil with a very dark brown head. Delicious aroma of malt and dark fruit. It feels silky smooth in the mouth. Lots of roasted malt in the flavor as well as chocolate and plum. Was wood used in aging? Flavor hints that it was. This beer is thick, rich, creamy, and delicious. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Pours dark brown, almost black into the English Pint. A quick inch of tan head reduced to a half inch and hung around. The scent was of coffee beans, malt, chocolate, hops and some caramel. A quick bitter rush on the palate, turns mildly creamy in the finish. Hints of coffee, malt, barley and oats swirl around. An excellent stout. thedrip (10), Harlowton, Montana, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 10, 2007 1pt 6oz bottle. Aroma is sweet chocolate, molases, coffee, and cream. Average sized tan head that mostly diminished and left some lacing. Abyssal black, I am quite shocked at how no light can penetrate. Sweet with chocolate, coffee, malts and bitter on the finish. Palate is medium-full bodied with a long finish. Great looking beer but I was really put off by the aroma and flavor. Too sweet and a weird aftertaste. Surprised it’s rated so high. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Black thick pour with a slightly oil look to it. Nice big foamy brown lasting head. Smell is fairly heavily hopped, with a rich roastiness in the background and a bit of dry cocoa. Taste is roasty, with medium to high carbonation, and was well hopped. Slightly overcarbonated, a bit dry, and bland, although the body was full and rich. Okay, but far from one of my favorite stouts. Just boring overall, and needed some sweetness to make the flavors pop a bit more. Feinschmecker (188), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2007 On tap in Issaquah. Roasted malt aroma with a Guinness like appearance, because they introduce nitrogen when it is on tap. This is a outstanding beer. It is very creamy and the different flavor components of this beer are subtle but they are all there in balance.
