Black!!! Aroma of spices, coffee, alcohol, wood and chocolate. A bit acidic. A flavour of fudge, hops and coffee. Bitter and a bit thin.

Pours black with thin mahogany highlights and a 3 finger creamy caramel tan head that has good retention and fades to a really thick skim after a couple minutes. Aroma is roast, chocolate, coffee, wholesome cereal grain, dark caramel, and a little char. Flavor is lots of roast, bittersweet chocolate, smoke, some dried nuts, coffee, some char, a few woody and dark fruit notes come out as it warms. Palate is medium bodied, somewhat slick, creamy and has a dry finish with a light, but active carbonation. This is a really nice stout, one of the better stouts I have had actually.

Intriguing. This is a really solid stout with obvious coffees and deep chocolates, but it is strangely missing that sweet and sour taste you often get with American breweries. It’s really good and a nice change.

Pours a motor oil with a thin shortly lived brown head. The aroma is good, but leaves something to be desired, standard notes of roastiness, coffee, and chocolate, with a little vanilla bean in there too. The flavour is again, pretty standard, but with a strange sort of fruit/vegetable flavour in the beginning, which quickly fades to chocolate, espresso, vanilla, ends on a hop/chocolate bitter note. All and all a decent stout, just nothing special here that sets it apart.

Bottle (650 ml). Pours black with a great thick tan head. Aromas have roasted nuts, some leather and some coffee. The flavor is similar, with great bitterness. There is a lot of chocolate on the flavor as well, and an almost peaty finish.

Bottle (650ml). Poured extremely dark brown (virtually black) with a dense, tanned, frothy head which lasted well. Aroma was of tropical hops with pineapple rings, ripe apricots, roasted hazelnuts, new leather and hints of carob chocolate. Flavor was somewhat similar to aroma with a moderate tropical hop bitterness with nectarines, caramel malts, toast, black coffee and a dry earthy finish with some light hop resins. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry hoppy mouthfeel, slick texture and a great length finish.

a very nice drinkable stout, creamy mouthfeel and pleasant chocolatey bitter finish. aroma is weird - cascade in a stout I something I will never really be into - but at least here it’s a lighter session stout, which means it’s not used to excess like in the rogue imperial, and you can almost pretend it’s an apa once your mouth gets used to the roast. fairly tame roast flavours make this easy to do. still, a stout that tastes like a pnw stout should. grapefruit and chocolate.
