| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 9, 2009 Enjoyed via one pint six ounce bottle in a pub glass. Pours a jet black with a tan head. Initial aromas give hints of milk chocolate, which gradually give way to more "stout-like" notes of fresh roasted black malt and a touch of west coast hops. On the palate, the beer initially gives some indication of the advertised specialty malts, followed by an espresso-like roasted character, and a citrusy American hop note, respectively. Overall, this is not a style that appeals to all beer drinkers. However, I think this is one of the best examples of the "American Stout" style available. Fred82 (389), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Hops, coffee, chocolate, a touch of alcohol, roasted malt, pepper, and a bit of smoke in the nose. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Lots to experience on the palate with notes of roasted malt, earth, ash, pine, and coffee. Medium-long, bitter finish. Great lacing left behind. Overall a very nice, bitter stout. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2009 This stout pours black and has a big bubble tan head that started to vanish quickly leaving only a skiff of bubbles floating on top after two minuets. WHY HOPS!!!!! The sent is fairly week in this stout but the aroma that can be picked up is mostly hops, with maybe a hint of chocolate, I don’t understand why allot of the beers coming out of the states lately are adding tons of hops to every thing. Thankfully the hops don’t show up as much in the flavor. This isn’t a bad tasting stout, coffee, chocolate, and a bitter taste and after taste, I think I can even taste a touch of vinilla in the finish. This was a ok tasting stout, and I’v diffenatly had worse it just didn’t live up to its awesome reputation, and I guarantee I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they used less hops and concentrated more a rich tasting malts. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 2, 2009 I smell everything! Breate deep every time you are thinking about how this smells. Chocolate aroma is the biggest, but not by much. This is very complex. It’s fresh, warmer smelling than any beer I’ve tried - humid actually, has a dark roasted nuttiness, flavoured malts and slightly dusty. You can notice the faintest hint of alcohol...but I’ve been smelling this for 15+ minuites...it just keep changing. But none of this comes even close to being overpowering at all. A perfect pour produced a HUGE dark tan head that occupied 1/3 of my glass. Now that I’m done the aroma part of the review it’s finally gone. Very very dark, but still has a noticable reddish hue. The intensity of the differnet flavours waver throughout the tasting, but once again never overpower the beer. More sweet than bitter chocolate goodness, soft roasted malts and a slight candy?? not sure there...I’ll have to add more on the next bottle cause by time I got this far, I’ve only got about 2 sips left - too busy enjoying it. Mouthfeel is freaking awsome. Man, can I feel the bitterness of the chocolate and the roasted flavour on my tongue. Good bitterness and a slight sweet bitter aftertaste. Very smooth. This beer has made me very happy. Now that I can actually appreciate a beer like this, it will be on constant supply at my house. rabba9 (66), Chaska, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 31, 2009 Updated: Sep 12, 2009Pours a deep brown with a nice tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is near off the charts, sweet but well balanced with the mild bitterness, hints of milk chocolate and roasted malts. Body is light to medium and tastes of sweet chocolate linger on tongue. Definately one of my favorite stouts, Shakespeare Stout is easy to drink and tastes phenominal.
