Bottle. Pours an inky-black with a tan head. Head disappears quickly but the lacing is still quite good. Nose is big and roasty, coffee, chocolate, licorice, ash. Palate is very nice, with surprisingly bright acidity, good bitterness, a miont-choclate character in the finish, with more ashiness as the beer warms. Very nice!

Pours out black with lots of creamy head.Taste is roasty and bitter. Flavors of toasted malt, cocoa and hops. Nice dry finish. Full bodied brew, great everyday drinking stout. Goes down smooth. I’ve been drinking this beer for years and its still good.

Black pour with a big, long lasting tan head. Oats and coffee malt aroma. Good initial flavor of the coffee and chocolate malt, has a good deal of hops on the finish as well. Well balanced, smooth and creamy body, nice lacing, overall an excellent stout.

Enjoyed via one pint six ounce bottle in a pub glass. Pours a jet black with a tan head. Initial aromas give hints of milk chocolate, which gradually give way to more "stout-like" notes of fresh roasted black malt and a touch of west coast hops. On the palate, the beer initially gives some indication of the advertised specialty malts, followed by an espresso-like roasted character, and a citrusy American hop note, respectively. Overall, this is not a style that appeals to all beer drinkers. However, I think this is one of the best examples of the "American Stout" style available.

Bottle, Mondial 2009. Black with small head, short retention. Aroma is oily dark chocolate with hints of hops. Palate is oily at first but becomes really dry on the finish. Taste is black chocolate, roasted malt and hops.

22 oz. bottle. Pours almost pitch black with a tall, creamy, brown head. Hops, coffee, chocolate, a touch of alcohol, roasted malt, pepper, and a bit of smoke in the nose. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Lots to experience on the palate with notes of roasted malt, earth, ash, pine, and coffee. Medium-long, bitter finish. Great lacing left behind. Overall a very nice, bitter stout.

This stout pours black and has a big bubble tan head that started to vanish quickly leaving only a skiff of bubbles floating on top after two minuets. WHY HOPS!!!!! The sent is fairly week in this stout but the aroma that can be picked up is mostly hops, with maybe a hint of chocolate, I don’t understand why allot of the beers coming out of the states lately are adding tons of hops to every thing. Thankfully the hops don’t show up as much in the flavor. This isn’t a bad tasting stout, coffee, chocolate, and a bitter taste and after taste, I think I can even taste a touch of vinilla in the finish. This was a ok tasting stout, and I’v diffenatly had worse it just didn’t live up to its awesome reputation, and I guarantee I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they used less hops and concentrated more a rich tasting malts.
