Commercial Description:
This pilsner is brewed in the Czechoslovakian style (think Pilsner Urquell!) purposely profiling the spicy and earthy Saaz hop. Paired with the spiciness of the rye malt, the Rye Pilsner finishes with a lingering residual sweetness that hides the higher than normal alcohol content!

This is what Joe and I had early Sept. when we stopped out at Rohrbach’s. Golden in color with a decent head. Aroma of spices with lemon. Too much rye in the flavor. Malty with some hops at the end.

Well, I sampled this, I wasn’t sure it was a new offering as there was another ’Rye’ listed, but since it is listed, I’ll share my thoughts. I’ll have to retry it too because what I found from it is just a nice malty beer, with a bit of hop balance, lager-like in appearance, a bit of spiciness from the rye, nice doughy aoma.

Rohrbach Rye Pilsner is a pretty clear light golden lager with a dense white head that fades to a film and leaves sheets of lacing on the glass. It has a sweet, tangy, spicy aroma. It smells pretty complex-- it kind of took me off guard. There are notes of berries, cinnamon, lemon and nutmeg-- all from the rye, I’d imagine. It’s just lighter than medium bodied with a quick, slick finish. It’s very smooth, but it leaves the tongue a bit chalky. The rye is prominent in the flavor. There is a touch of syrupy sweetness and a sour note. The bitterness is ample and it’s balanced well. It doesn’t taste as complex as it smells, but there is a depth to the flavor. It’s fruity, wooden and pretzely. There are notes of coriander seed and sourdough bread. It’s very engaging for Pilsner. Consider this growler punished!
