Dark Brown.
I never really received much from the aroma. It was always subtle and somewhat fruity.
But what a taste. Each and every time. Medicinal up front. Lovely malt notes in the mid-palate; dried red apple, watermelon seed and plums. The lingering and outrageous finish was full of a coating malty sweetness and a faint hint of hop resins. I enjoyed this one a lot. chriso (4850), London, Greater London, England

A bit like a barley wine, I suppose. I found the alcohol level a bit intrusive, bit, overall, I thought is was an interesting and palatable beer. It’s just that I’m rarely convinced that the extra alcohol really does much for the beer. I preferred the Pioneer Pale Ale too. Bottled at GBBF 2004.

Quiet syruppy and sticky, quite raisiny and sweet, with a fair amount of hops, a bit sweet, the style really isn’t my bag, i preferred the Pioneer Pale Ale of the same brewery. Very much like an IIPA. Heavy on the cascades, big malt base and lots of (well hidden) alcohol. As Silktork notes, this is rather crude. However, this stood up well to other highly hopped american styles at the GBBF
