Cask handpull at The Dispensary, Liverpool. OK I had 2 halves of this, one with the sparkler and one without. The difference was really quite marked. I admit I’m an Outlaw fan, I love what they do, making tasty, intense beers. This one is black with very dark brown edges. Lasting tan head. Blow me down!!! Except you couldn’t blow me down because I have just been fortified by the body of this beer, which is excellent. That’s incredible. I don’t want to drink any more because I don’t want to be wrong and I don’t want to finish it. The roasted coffee espresso aroma is just about the best I’ve had. This was the beer of the weekend. 40 beers in and this is head and shoulders above everything else. The aroma is like putting your nose in a packet of mocha coffee beans. Finish is intense espresso/dark choc dryness. That is amazing. The finish is like the mose intense choc/coffee experience of my life. The only beer this weekend that has made me go wide eyed stare. Then I had a half without the sparkler and you know what, it wasn’t as good. A bit more watery than with the sparkler, but the finish is just as good. Roast malt and blackcurrant. I guess there must be some Willamette hops in here for the blackcurrant and subtle herby hop. So with a sparkler a 4.5/5, without a 4.3/5, overall 4.4

Cask gravity @ Reading Beer Festival 2008.
Clear dark brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, coffee, oat, pepper, dusty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, and a dry dusty finish. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. (020508)

Cask, Geordies Byre, Ayr. Very dark colour with a thin muddy coloured head. Rosted Coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavour is more of the same ; very robust with some maltiness. Nice n’ smooth. Decent dry bitterish finish. A quality stout fo’real.

Gravity, Reading Beer Festival. Jet black, frothy white head. Coffee and swamp aroma, alternating between the two, with chocolate and nutty flavors around the edges. Bready mineral flavor, a little roast in the finish, and some funk here and there. A bit thin. Not bad, just didn’t come together for me.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Reading Beer Festival.
Almost black mahogany with a thin bubbly beige head. Excellent earthy malt with bags of chocolate, coffee, rubber and big roasty notes. It’s got the lot. A classic British stout with a stunning dry finish. All round winner.
