1 liter shared by Kan! Pours a medium to deep amber/reddish and a thin fading head. Aroma is a nice acetic, but not overdone- Flemish red- acetic, slight ketchup, cherry pit, toasted french oak, slight tannic wine and vinous. Flavor is clean, yet complex, not too acetic, just perfect vinegar character, no harsh or off solvent or phenols, nice cherry pitty, woody, tannic, wine-like, good body and tannin and acid backbone. Modest to high acidity in the end, but not overly sour. Wow very impressed with the overall quality and restraint in this Flemish Red. Great!

Nov 29, 2009 In short: An excellent recreation of a classic oaky and tannic Flemish Sour.
How: Big 1L swing-top bottle. Consumed fresh soon after purchase. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Dark amber-red body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Nose of classic Flemish Sour with plenty of oak barrel. Taste is medium sour, very tannic, cherries, plenty of oak, light-medium acidity, some caramel, tree leafs. If it wasn’t a for little hard candies sugary sweetness I would have ranked it as high as the classics of the style. I need to get myself a bottle of this wonderful tasty beer and bring it to a tasting too. So for once I’d be proud of my Roots.

Nov 19, 2009 Deep ruddy pour. Quite cloudy with a thin, white head. The nose is fairly oaky with a bit of nice sweet fruitiness. Soft vineousness with a bit of vanilla, light cherry and a kiss of soft tartness. Nice light lingering cherry fruit. It’s pretty solid really.

Nov 15, 2009 bottle. unfiltered cloudy rust, small off-white head. nose is equal parts solvent, tart cherries and cedar. mild brown sugar and nutmeg yeast spices noticed after warming. moderately prickly, lightly sweet caramel/munich malt, snappy red apple skin, tart cherry pits, cedar shavings, mild to medium acidity. body is somewhat rough but it works with the mild acidity and wood notes. doesn’t even hint at it’s alcohol content. i enjoy it more as i drink through the bottle. good stuff.

Nov 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a brune body with an off white head. Vinegar, woody lactic acid toned, with a balsamic note. Sharp acidic finish and a full body. Tannin cherry and oak. Nice.

Oct 31, 2009 Bottle at Paul’s place for Kan’s visit, pretty sure this was brought by Kan. Pours a clear tawny brown amber with a thin white head. Light fruit and sour notes, vinegar. Light bitterness, slight nuttiness.

Oct 30, 2009 1 liter bottle. Thanks again to Todd for sending our way.... Pours a dark amber reddish brown with a thin head... Aroma of tart sour Cherry and oak. Pretty solid overall ... Tart sour cherry and oak, perhaps a little green and vegetable that eventually opens up to some sweetness. Pretty drinkable overall and nice.

Oct 27, 2009 Bouteille de 1 l, avec bouchon de céramique, partagée lors d’une dégustation Ratebeer Montréal chez Altair. Arôme: Odeur de cerises sûrettes avec une pointe de caramel. Apparence: La couleur est bourgogne. Présence d’une mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de raisins et de cerises sûrettes avec une pointe fruitée. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement vineuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût fruité. (Rating #2702)
