Commercial Description:
Gruit Kolsch is a look back to the time before hops were used in beer. A unique blend of lavender, grains of paradise, sweet gayle, orange, chamomile, and mugwort replaces the hops for a subtle and complex herbal, slightly spicy palate over a crisp. effervescent, refreshing pale Kolsch.

A lovely hazy orange/gold color. Citrusy and yeasty. Some floral notes that linger. Nice and refreshing.

Draft. a hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet and very perfumy. THe flavor is sweet and very perfumy - with notes of ginger and lavender as well as citrus. Too perfumy for my liking.

Draft. Golden beer with an off-white head. Malty, slight fruit, some herbal/mineral aroma. Herbal, fruity, malty flavor with mineral tones. Medium body. Lingering mineral, malt, tropical fruit. Nice balance. Not bad. Just a bit too much mineral (which is what I picked up more than herbal/floral).

Light copper-yellow pour with a medium-sized white head. Sweet, earthy, nutty nose with evidence of chamomile. Interesting and unique flavor that comes with the Roots gruit styles. For a hop head like myself to drink more than one, you know it is tasty!

Draft: Pours a golden slightly hazy color with 1 finger white head. Aroma of honey and herbs. Flavor is very honeylike, somewhat sweet but crisp with tons of herbal and flowery flavors that blend so well i cant really pick them out. Amazingly balanced. Very easy drinking and refreshing. Reccommended for originality alone not to mention how good it is.

Singmasters took us here. I picked up a pitcher of this one. It was extremely unqiue style. More of an herbal brew than Kolsch. Must have used Kolsch yeast to make this Herbal a different style. Hints of Chamomile, lavender, grains of paradise, mogwort. Aroma of bubble bath, lemon. Very Very HAZY yellow. amazing flavors, very herbal.

Tasted on Tap at 2005 OBF. Light yellow gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is herbal and fruity. A light to medium bodied Kolsch. Malts are fruity and sweet. Brewed without hops so the bittering flavors are chamomile and lavender etc. , it adds a few kind of odd tastes to the beer. Light and refreshing. Interesting and worth trying. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is sweet.

Punchy strong ginger and floral scent, perfumy. Some onion-like acidity, seriously burning my eyes. Has a musrky, very cloudy appearance, like a hefe. Chamomile and flower petal flavor, soft on the palate, very smooth but not thin. A neat experiment, and about as close to a traditional kolsch as a stout would be. A little too heavy on the soapy flower pedal taste.
