Commercial Description:
We call this a red stout. A very full bodied complex ale brewed with a good amount of oats which help give this red a very rich and creamy head.

On tap at Roots, Portland. Hazy deep red/brown colour. Lovely hoppy aroma, grapefruit and red berries. Good body of juicy malt holds for a second and then follows a lovely drying hop finish. the initial hit of malt and hop though is stunning. Great. Came to Portland suspicious of amber type beer, but now found 2 big winners, this and Laurelwood Organic Red. Lovely juicy red fruit malt.

Caramel and cherries and lemons exude from the thick head. Hazy red amber in color. Noticeable roasty malts combine with some oaty creaminess followed by a wallop of citric hops. Extra credit for its uniqueness. YUM!

Thanks to Craig for pouring this special beer for me at Roots in Portland, Oregon--Rich hazy amber-dark copper-caramel body with a wispy inviting whitish head. Nose of robust malts and invigoratingly resinous hops. Full, sticky, chewy mouth feel. Flavor was gritty, earthy, roasty and bitter. Finished with a nice biting bitter citrus hops profile and a worthy malt spine. This one gets an A.

A nice malty Red but very hoppy and creamy also. Medium bitterness cutting through the medium to thick mouthfeel. A very full flavored red. Hits your palate all over.

Dark orange and red colors, almost brown, and very murky. Low carbonation it seems, and the first drink is sweet and thick bready meat and malt, before it turns into an onrush of bittering hops, unsweetened grains and sour brown ale qualities. Weird, for sure... and like a Flemish Sour without the sourness. Very thick, very creamy with light oats and coffee... the stout qualities are there but are really strange, and I don’t know if I would have picked them up had I not known there were oats in this beer.

Update: Another beer that really has improved from the first batch. Clearity is great and the murky yeasty flavor has gone with the times. Very nice crisp hop flavor over a caramel malt base. This very hoppy red pours a murky darker copper with just a slight touch of white head. Aroma of very green smelling hops and fruity malts. This brew tasted and had the consistancy that reminded me of an all-natural juice dirnk, lots of floating particles gave it a kinda unfiltered thick juice consistancy. Like their IPA there was a lot of yeast taste. Big hop finish kept this brew crisp.

Pours reddish copper with a thin tan head. Smells of rich creamy malt, some spice. Tastes mildly bitter with a nice compliment of sweet malt and touches of earthiness on the finish.

Amber-red with some haze. Toasty, lightly smokey dark malt character. Fairly bitter, rooty (good one, Oakes!), earthy with great support from caramelly malts. The ingredients are well-matched. Surprised about the oats but everything goes so well in this beer it must be a good call.
