wetherel (1067), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 13, 2008 tap. Dark amber color. Buttery rich sweetness. Like cookie dough. Some alcohol burn. Very good. Taverner (482), San Ramon, California, USA May 21, 2008 Very sweet. Very sweet and smooth - with a bitter bite at the finish. Despite this, its a little cough-syrupish. Nose is alcohol, a little hop and wheaties. riversideAK (1649), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 6, 2008 Dark copper color with a light head. Big ass fruity aroma with a ton of malts, brown sugar, molasses alcohol. Lots of fruit again in the flavor. Malt-centric, notes of ripe fruits, brown sugar, perhaps a little wheat that helps the fruit profile. A good amount of alcohol is present in the full, almost syrupy body. Pretty interesting stuff. rkuhnel (1144), Eureka, California, USA Mar 27, 2008 On tap at the brewpub in Sacramento. Poured a very clear and deep copper color with a fat pink head an excellent lacing .Big one of fruit and sweet malts. Rich and full mouthfeel. Flavor is complex and full of fruiit and spicy hops. Very nice to drink. One of the better barley wines I have had on tap. Ibrew2or3 (1756), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2008 On tap @ the Liar’s Club in Alpine, CA. Pours a deep clear copper with lasting tan head ring and sheet lacing. The aroma is big with dark fruity esters, caramel and mild alcohol phenols. The taste begins with a welcoming thick viscous sludgy sensation that ushers in loads of fruity esters like cherries, dates, raisins and faint pepper. It also comes across as mildly hot. A boat load of fruity esters really showing up throughout. Could use more age. But at this age it is still yummy.
