Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. The aromas of chocolate, toffee and caramel. Dryish flavor with chocolate, nuts, caramel and leather. Light body. Aroma promises more.

Bottle. Very fruity on the nose, dark, semi-opaque in the glass. Considerably more body than I expected for a mild, and with good slightly spicy fruit flavour and decent length.

[Cask at Back of Beyond, Reading] So, champion beer of Britain eh? That’s some reputation to live up to. It all looks good at first - it pours a deep ruby-brown with a small beige head. The aroma is of cough mixture and coffee. Quite a smooth, rich mouthfeel. The flavour is at first of chocolate and ribena and all seems OK. But then pear drops and cough mixture rear their heads and it all goes a bit ugly. Although there is a touch of dusty bitterness in the finish, the cough mixture and pear drops made this too sweet and sickly for me - I enjoyed the first mouthful, but enjoyed each subsequent gulp less and less. Lots of flavour certainly, but the balance between those flavours is just not championship standard.
