Fruity foretaste but not much of an aftertaste except for a sprinkle of hop. Low carbonation and smooth palate, which is refreshing for a BC microbrew. A good standby and better than a lot of the crap we get on tap in Vancouver. beaconstreet (811), Washington DC, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 31, 2005 Slightly hazy amber colour. Light hop crispness with caramel accents highlight this beer. Honeyish malts, hints of hop - it’s mild but it’s fresh. Malakin (465), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Nose of caramel and sweet malt. Tastes like caramel, molasses and vanilla. A faint trace of hops but would benefit from a bit more. A decent straight-forward beer. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Apr 5, 2003 Amber body with no real head. Aroma is sweet and slightly hoppy. Flavour is dominated by a sugary taste and finishes dry. Mark brews a decent ale or two - namely, his cream and amber. I haven't been in to see the brewmaster in a few years to sip from the tanks. His ales are not on tap in my area either, so I'll have to go from memory: Smooth, moderately malty with some English yeasty fruitiness and flaunts a little hop on top. These aren't knock-your-sox-off ales but deserve a tap in any bar. I would order a modest Russell over most micros in BC. Crit (2404), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 13, 2003 While not widely available this is one of the better amber ales in the area. It has a lightly fruity malt flavor with light dry hop finish.
