TheRealBastard (141), The-No, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Smooth and fresh. This beer is not as bold as the Pliny, but still very solid. Pine, citrus and hops came out of this bad boy. This beer is much more dry compared to the Pliny, drank this one right after the Pliny. Great overall beer. xpimptastikx (41), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 23, 2008 Pours a clear golden with minimal off with head. Smells bitter, piney, and with a hint of citrus. Tastes less bitter than the smell, but still a nice bite. Feels good in the mouth, very smooth. Leaves a nice lasting bitterness. tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA Oct 22, 2008 Bottle. Pretty orange copper with a small white head that fades to a thin film. Light citrus and pine aroma. Grapefruit, orange, and piney hops with solid but not overwhelming bitterness. Malt maintains a presence in the background. Nicely carbonated but perhaps a touch thin. Great lingering finish. Almost delicate for a West Coast IPA. Very good stuff. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 21, 2008 Bottle courtesy of the notorious ajm. Pours a dark golden shade with a frim white head. Smells of mild hops that build in character on the palate. Heavy with salt -- almost like bacon grease. Tasty and distinct. machfive55 (218), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2008 Poured a nice amber color. There was a pleasing hop aroma. The beer was very hoppy as expected with a little bite from the bitterness that almost reveals itself as an astringency. There was a good malt/hop balance, which I like to see with IPA’s. The hops linger on forever in your mouth, which I think is just awesome. Overall, this was a nice IPA that I would try again. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 20, 2008 Draughyt. High white creamy and lasting head. Slightly hazy golden body. Aroma of hops, nothing else. Flavor likewise simple but good hops bitterness with a heavy carbonation and a long lasting bitter aftertaste. CartersBrewing (1), Billings, Montana, USA does not count Oct 18, 2008 Had on tap at Falling Rick during GABF 08. Tasted very good and had a great hop aroma and flavor, but tasted too close to the Pliny the Elder that was also on tap that night. Expected them to be further apart in hop profile. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 18, 2008 Cold bottle from Joey @ Southbay. A bright but not overly fruity aroma, and this continues in the very smooth flavor. While the hops are present, they aren’t at all isolated - a perfect presence here from the foamy head to the very slightly salty finish. Perfect size for a bottle, too.
