BelgianBeerGal (1273), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Oct 2, 2008 Tried to obey the bottle and drink as fresh as possible. Very strong aroma of pine resin and juniper. Flavour is like you mixed mandarine oranges with pine needles...plenty of citrus and plenty of bitterness. Very unique IPA and I like it. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 1, 2008 1 pint, 9 fl. oz. - bottled on 07/22/08: Deep golden pour with a skinny head that really wants to lace. The aroma is just fantastic - bright hops are an understatment. Notes of rindy clementine and sweet oranges meld well with lighter notes of candied oranges, wet grass, pine needles, peaches and apricots. A more intense rindy note meets the tongue, reminiscent of pink grapefruit. Prickly carbonation breaks up the hoppiness. A mild caramel base works to balance the hop onslaught, but comes up a bit sharp. I would boost the caramel in this to balance the insanely complex and bitter hops. A nice example with the aroma easily beating out the body. daknole (2801), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 1, 2008 Stefanje you are the man. Thanks for this bottle. Wow what an amazing hop bomb! Golden pour with a white head. Aroma is citrus and pine. Some malts can be had in the nose, but the power of the hops takes over! And then the flavor...tastes like biting into a nice big chunk of grapefruit skin...also some pine notes in it. I could sit and live off the aroma of this beer for days...and the flavor is just plain amazing. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy golden color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium to full body with a oily slick texture. Moderate to heavy bitter flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. Very good brew. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 30, 2008 I bought this in a bottle at Arrow liqourmart in Littleton, CO. Appearance- Straw colored, decent clarity for the strength. Not a lot of head to speak of. Aroma- Spicey and Piney hops are present. The taste is similar to the hops in the aroma, with a bready malt/yeast profile. It’s good, but I wouldn’t agree with a 98 rating. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, sampled at RBSG 08. Pours a hazy amber with a white ring. Huge bitter and sweet hops aroma, with a lot of citrus. Clean, crisp hops taste, with pine and citrus notes. Big lingering bitterness. Great IPA. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 28, 2008 My Bottom Line:
A deft flock of crisp biscuity malts grazes the greenest hoppiness; its citrusy, floral, spicy and resinous crops provide a seemingly eternal string of bouquets for this quintessential West Coast IPA experience.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the hazy blond-beige.
-The hop profile is so eloquent and so engaging, it’s hard not to be attracted to.
-The long bitterness is quite sandy and redolent of the Simcoe variety.
-Although I greatly appreciate Pliny The Elder, I would drink a lot more Blind Pig if it were available to me.
-I like the fact that the malts are crisp and not too sweet; this increases drinkability and let’s the perfumy hops express themselves fully.
Bottle. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Great hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pine. A little more balanced than Pliny the Elder (although I like Elder better). Solid IPA though, very enjoyable.
