| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Bottle purchased from City Beer in SF. Pours a golden bronze color witha nice head and great lacing. The aroma is hoppy, but also somewhat mellow. Just a hint of the alcohol, but not near as strong smelling as other IPA’s. Tangy light citrus flavor. More of a "lighter" IPA mouthfeel. A nice overall IPA tronraner (1911), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Bottle, generously shared by NachlamSie. Pours orange with long-lasting light beige head. The aroma is nice, dank, herbal hops with a strong tangerine and lemon verbena note. The flavor is smooth, but assertive hops. Tangerine, pine, assorted herbs, and an excellent level of bitterness. There’s a little bit of honey and toast behind it for some balance. The finish is fruity and hoppy and tasty. Great beer. NachlamSie (1637), Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Bottled on June 9, 2009. Split with Tronraner. Pours a hazy bright orange with a delightful head. I love IPA’s that look like this. Damn, this is hoppy. Very fresh stanky hops. Lots of grapefruit, sticky herbs, very little malt going on. The mouthfeel is dry and sticky in a sublime way. Lots of herbal bitterness, grapefruit, assorted citrus, wood, pineapple. This is one serious IPA that is all about the hops. I’m really glad I got a fresh sample this time. mesperon (134), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Dark amber with fluffy white head. Extremey herby/woodsy and slightly fruity hoppy aroma. Nice bitter hop bite with overwhelming hop flavor. Tastes just like PLiny the Elder with a bite. bleeng (596), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2009 Bomber thanks to Jim. Bright gold with a small white head. Nice hop nose. Taste is overall a hop bomb with very little/no malt profile. Very fresh taste. A bit thin on the palate and it leaves a dry taste on the end. Overall a good beer but not groundbreaking (like it was when it first came out). baraciisch (138), USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Yellow golden in color.... Sweet floral hops aroma... Flavor is gently sweet and malty, minimal hop flavor up front more like a pale ale, but with a nice gentle finish that intensifies on the palate, hints of grapefruit and citrus... Pretty good beer, Pliny the Elder is way better though. ChainGangGuy (2549), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, faintly-hued, dull copper body with a wispy, white head.
Smell: Pungent nose dominated by robust hop notes of pithy grapefruit, earthy lemon rinds, pineapple, and flowers.
Taste: Starts with a subtly sweet, restrained pale malt base from which to launch yourself into the hop field. Soon, a full-on barrage of sharply citric hop character and bitterness pushes its way onto the palate. Strong accents of white grapefruit and rustic lemon, with somewhat lesser undertones of fruity pineapple and pressed flowers. Medium-high bitterness. The beer remains assertively bitter all the through (and beyond) the very dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A bit oily, a bit sticky even.
Drinkability: Well, there’s no question, it’s certainly one for the hop fiends. About as reasonably easy to drink as a cuttingly bitter India Pale Ale can hope to be.
