Even upon opening I could smell a wonderful bouquet of floral hops and sweet malts. Poured a golden orange color with a fluffy, moderately fast declining head, was probably my pour. Later pours into my glass rendered only a small white head. Aroma is grassy, malty, with a wonderful, but not an overpowering hop hit. Flavor is a nice balance of citrus, pine, and malts. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2009 This poured a nice clear yellow to orange color with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma was just amazing, a cornicopia of hops really. Lots of different types it seems with smells of fruit/citrus, pine and grassy. Yumm. Flavor was just as impressive. Brutally bitter upfront with a nice smooth pine and citrus flavor, and then a really nice dry malty finish. Excellent beer and little brother to PLINEY. golubj (1300), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 6, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. Blond / light amber pour. Aroma is pine hops mostly, resinous. Flavor is the same, some sweeter malt underneath, pine / earthy bittering finish. JaBier (1284), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Growler from the brewpub. Pours a clear copper with a minimal white head. Super hopped aroma that is piney and citrusy with a nice malt back. Flavor is citrusy hop, then malt, then hop again on the finish. Amazing beer. drfabulous (1280), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Oh my goodness. Bitter. Hoppy. Bit of toasty taste to it. Everything reputation led me to believe it would be. I envy those SF beer drinkers who can probably get this on tap all the time. What aroma. What taste. I split the bottle with my wife. jrob21 (1279), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Yeah, this is a top notch drink. One small, teeny, tiny, notch below the Elder but still and incredible drink. Tasty grapefruit and citrus hops. Blast of orange peel aroma. Cloudy orange color with a creamy white head that gives an added texture to the drink. Lots of hops here but I completely missed the malt profile and wonder if that could be put up front a little more for some balance. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2006 On tap at Hollingshead Deli. Pours a transparent golden color with a finger of soapy white head. Aroma is deliciously rich with hops. Some sweet ruby red grapefruit citrus tones are complimented by a light peach fruitiness and sweetened with a squeeze of honey. Light, crisp refreshing mouthfeel with a sparkling burst of thirst quenching carbonation on the tongue. Loads of grapefruit hops flood the palate instantly, but are soon backed evenly by a mildly sweet pineapple glaze. Forget the bretts for the time being - an overall delicious and another great example of Russian River’s mastery of the hops.
