Aromas of grapefruit rind and pine. Signature ton of hops like in Pliny, but very soft in the finish. I guess every CA IPA cant be super abrasive, but I was looking for more citrus or more pine and did not get either. Still beats 99 percent of the east coast IPAs out there. Piney aftertaste. This beer provided the nicest lacing on a glass that I’ve ever seen. Naka (526), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2008 Pours a clear golden orange color. Very small, almost non-existent head. Does leave a little lacing. Aroma is sweet w/ some apricot and a very earthy mud smell. Not in a bad way though. Flavor is earthy and kind of dirty. A nice mild hop flavor. Gives a good bitterness on the tongue. A little bit of fruity character. Some floral too. Very perfumey. Seems like it has a little more body than the Pliny the Elder. trevor211 (523), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2008 On draft at Brouwer’s. Pours light! Very transparent, with a small head. Lots of grapefruit and citrus up front - very hop-forward. Crisp, smooth - great, but no Pliny. Sprightly, but still richly flavorful. Very nice. GJF (517), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

This is tough competition at this brewery! agl108 (511), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2009 On draft at Teresa’s. Poured light orange with egg-white head. Nose of fresh grapefruits. Flavor consists of freshly sliced fruits: orange, grapefruit, even some pineapple noticeable. Probably underrated as some people try incorrectly to compare it to the Plinys. One of the best IPAs out there. Wulfstan (509), California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 21, 2008This is an outstanding IPA and among my favourites for the style. Its light golden amber with a small, off-white ehad that lasts and leaves some good lace. The aroma is strong grapefruit with plenty of grapes and a hint of white wine, hint of pine. it has a definite west coast IPA quality but with more body, range, malt, and juicy complexity. The taste is very juicy with grapefruit, but not too much, lemon, pine, a lot of apple and winey grape quality, bitter but with great flavour body and sweetness to carry it, and a dryish aftertaste. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Props to cloudskipper for sending this my way: This is one of the best IPAs I have ever had. I liked it better than Pliny for its character and drinkability. Very crisp citrus character with a pine underlay. Bitterness stings the tongue and then soothes it with a nice, round finish. A bit grassy, and malt-anemic as you’d expect from a West Coast IPA but I absolutely loved it.
