| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2009 750mL bottle, batch 1. Poured crystal-clear medium garnet with a fizzy, but surprisingly-retained cap of beige head. The aroma was sour with red vinous notes and black currants leading.. softer berry, light toffee, and nutty backing.. extremely well presented. The flavor opened with tart currants and lesser berry notes with more woody and vinegary notes showing up across the middle.. finished tart and funky with more currants. Medium-bodied and bracingly tart on the palate.. sour, woody, and well put-together, with great use of the oak and fruit. kyzr (1123), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Flavor is woody, cherry, dried current, chunky figs and a ton of other stuff that I’m too dumb to figure out. Just makes you pucker, but man I want another sip. mar (1831), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Pours clear auburn, with a medium khaki head, good lacing. Aroma of currant, spice, toast, woody with a little bit of earthy, farmhouse hay. Medium body, very tart and spritzy, lightly dry. Very strong sour taste, vinous with lots of citrus and currant, some light farmyard brett, cherry, caramel, and grass notes. Predominately sour, but there’s plenty of sweetness to balance it out. | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Updated: Sep 11, 2009Dark brown with very thin head. Cherries, very sweet with donuts and lightly musty wood. There was a pleasing vinous note throughout. Taste was funky tart with currants. Woody with some hints of cocoa behind the tartness. Well balanced with enough tartness to keep it interesting. It also has a sweet note that keeps it easy to drink at the same time it is being complex. This is a sour more along the lines of Rodenbach and I get why some that want mouthpuckering sourness find that to be a turn off. Everything about this beer hit me the right way. I would love to try it again. Awesome.
