Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Pours with a large off-white head that leaves good lacing and lasts a while. Body is a slightly hazy gold color with particles. Aroma of hops, sweetness, pears, apples, spices, and caramel. Has a slightly off flavor in the finish. Pears at the start. Slightly fizzy.

On tap at the Horse Brass in Portland, OR--Poured a sharp and deep golden body with a frothy white head. Sticky honey, hops, and funky caramel dominated the palate. Very enjoyable!

Wet dough, caramelized honey with hints of white pepper on the nose. Burnt gold color with a slight haze, huge foamy head that lasts forever. Funky caramel sweetness, very noticeable bitterness. Soft carbonation, medium mouth feel, spicy finish. Great beer, flavors are solid, seems a little more carbonation would benefit the beer.

Solid. Nice golden color, minimal creamy head (minimal lacing, but very strong waves when tipped). Honey, hay, light lemon peel receding into a nice hoppiness. Reminds me of Castelain de garde if it was a year younger.

From the bottle, courtesy of MrBendo (sorry it took so long to rate this one), pours a clear golden yellow with a thick white foamy head and thick lacing down the sides of the glass. Aroma is a cross between a hefe and a typical golden, some notes of bananas but more of that corny smell that’s indicitive of golden ales. I’d describe the flavor the same way. Some wheaty and yeasty banana hints, but more of that oddly malty/corny/earthy taste found in Belgian ales, but not quite farm ale status. A drying finish, with a bit of earthy hops. That thick, drying earthy hop flavor becomes more prominent as the beer warms. I’d give this a very good rating overall. Thank you very much MrBendo!

On tap at RR. Pours gold with a big white head. Nose of fruit, spice, yeast, citrus. Taste is both fruity and spicey, with a little hop. Finish is lightly spiced. Mouth medium bodied and fairly carbonated with some dryness. .

Poured from tap at Marin Breast Fest a golden with medium white head. This beer reminded me of Duvel with a tart and fruity spiciness, high carbonation tang, and a light yeasty bread flavor. The beer is dry, just hinting at sweetness with spicy carbonation tingle mouthfeel. Good beer all around. I’ll have to try it from bottle for comparison.
