Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Finally, I get to sample the Damnation! And it did not disappoint! The beer pours a clloudy and somewhat hazy golden color with a thick and generous white head. There isn’t much lacing left around the glass, though. The nose is full of fruits, bread, floral hops, caramel and earth. The body is smooth and dangerously drinkable. This bottle was gone really before I knew it. The flavors were smooth and delicious, with notes of honey, grass, lemon zest, orange peel, floral hops and light malts. The finish is really well-balanced, with floral hops and citrus notes, along with bready and light malty notes.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color with a large, frothy dense white head. Lacing is moderate. Aromas of bananas, bread, dough, and grass. Mouthfeel is very lively with a long lasting finish, different from most beers in this category. Tastes of bananas and bread throughout, although it has a strange bitter finish. From the aromas and appearance I thought this would be a much better beer. It is average, not great.

Tried in Portland, OR. Pours golden with a nice off white head. Very fruity with plenty of candy sugar to match, lots of banana. Subdued alcohol aftertaste. Would drink again.

On tap at Monks. Smells of sweet fruit and mild alcohol. Little head and no lacing. Taste is of sweet fruit such as banana with mild alcohol notes, yeast and something I can’t place. Mouthfeel is medium, not too light and not too syrupy. Only major qualm is that it was over carbonated. The fizz that inevitably appeared after each sip took away from the taste and otherwise excellent mouthfeel. A very tasty beer with a ton of flavor; I would absolutely drink again.

Draft. Pours cloudy golden, with a thin white head. Aroma of honey, hay, wheat, hops, and grapes. Medium bodied. Tangy, clean mouthfeel with a modest, pleasant finish. Decent Belgian strong.

On tap at Browers months ago and in bottles all over town. Taste of sparkling grape juice. Good balance, very drinkable, albeit a bit dry.

Draft at Toronado SD. Pours a cloudy dark golden yellow with half finger of white-ish head. Nose is bright and mildly sweet with yeast, fruity esters (banana, pear, light citrus, flowers), and bready grain. Flavor of citrus (lemon), sweet-ish malts, yeast, light spice, and other good stuff. Starts softly sweet and then a light hoppiness appears partway through and continues into the finish. Nicely balances, lovely and complex. This is very good and very drinkable stuff.
