Despite it’s smooth finish I found a great layered complexity to the flavors. Highly recommended with a meal or on a hot day! illidurit (891), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Light gold color with a watery white head that leaves some scattered lacing. Aroma is juicy and sweet. Obviously very floral, but with a spicy character as well. Flavor is light and refreshing, with a hibiscus type of flower petal character and a peppery dry finish. Very easy to drink. BrotherGrendel (591), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 12, 2008 On draft at Toronado SF. Appearance is a bright translucent hardy yellow hue, layer of dense white head sustains, moderate lacing. Smell is honey, floral hops, light fruits (pears, apples, apricots, berries), earthy/grassy tones, bread malts, flowers and spices. Taste is light fruits and berries up front, underlying layer of sweet honey and floral (violet?) highlights, spices, faint hints of sweet bread, finishes sweet.
Palate is medium-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, moderate carbonation
Overall, a unique ale with the most floral character I have ever experienced, light and punchy overall, holds my interest but not enough for a repeat. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2008 Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This is the version brewed at Russian River by Vinnie and Agostino. This spiced beer poured a slightly hazy light orange gold color. Large sized white foamy head. The aroma is floral and very delicate; there is a hint of roses and some fruit. A light bodied spiced ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of very delicate flavors, floral and roses, some honey and a fruit I guess is elderberry. Nice beer. You will really need to drink this one all by itself, any food pairing would overwhelm the flavors. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Pours clear gold, with a three-inch head of dense white. Retention is average, leaving behind plenty of smeared lacework and a partial skim-coat on the surface.
Aromatics are floral, perfumy, and lightly sweet and spicy. Rose petals with honey and white peppercorns.
Fresh dew in a flower garden with earthy cedar underfoot.
Light bodied, creamy and slightly crisp. A bit tacky and clingy.
Very light malt and crisp wheat lead off the pallet, along with a light spicy note and some residual honey. A slight bitterness takes the edge of the light residuals.
Finishes with rounded honey notes, a hint of lemon, and rosewater.
A very delicate brew, and the pallet doesn’t really deliver what the nose promises. Refreshing and quenching.
I hope to try the small amount that made it into barrels someday.
