Commercial Description:
Each time we make this ale we pick a different single variety of hops and use them exclusively in the brew. The malt bill stays fairly consistent from batch to batch so as to allow the distinctive hop flavors to come through. Here are just a few of the hops used in the past: Simcoe, Vanguard, Sterling, YCR-004, Amarillo, Satus, Santium, Tomahawk, and Columbus. Available on draft seasonally.O.G.: 1.060;50 BU’S

Sterling Hop 2 It on draft at Russian River Brewing. Golden color with a white head. Floral hop aroma. Very well-balanced flavor with citrusy hops and sweet caramel malt. Great for a single hop beer, medium with hop oils on the palate.

Draught at the brewpub, sterling version, 5.8%, 42 IBU. Gold with a white head. Aromas of doughy malt, and light spicy and mango/tropical fruit hops. Medium-sweet, bready malt flavor with a spicy, resiny hop flavor and bitterness. Nice hop flavor, but not high on the hop intensity. Interesting, but gets pretty overshadowed by the other hoppy beers in the stable.

On tap at the brewery. This blonde ale poured with a thin off-white head and a floral aroma. There is a smooth caramel malt flavor and sigificant bitterness produced by the tasty Sterling hops. It’s both light and bitter.

On tap @ the brewpub. Been looking forward to this for a while--Sterling hops have intrigued me since I had Valley Brew’s Pils, and they used Sterling here as well. Clear pale orange amber with a creamy one finger eggshell head, fading to a clinging thick ring and thick film. Big fresh floral nose with some earthy bitterness and a pale malt background. Flavor has a fair amount more earthy bitterness than I’d expected, and the flowers are toned back a little in the flavor. Bitterness peaked around a 4 when it did eventually finish, which was dry. Medium body with low prickly carbonation, yet still came across as smooth. Nice tattered lacing. For being a single hop beer, I like it. If nothing else, it’s a nice education tool for what the hell a Sterling hop is. The chalkboard lists this batch @ 5.80% ABV.

Clean and extremely floral nose with a hint of biscuity malt. Orange blosson and citrus nose leading to a very clean and peonounced hop bitterness that leads to a wonderfully oily resinous mouthfeel. Nice hop finish with an extremely dry followthru.

(F.O. in Santa Monica) Orange-gold with some head. Citrusy hops aroma. Nice citrus hops flavor, not over the top (but more than an English IPA).

Had this on tap at Najas place. Wow, this beer was really good, I enjoyed it very much, it was a smooth citrusy flavor, some spices in there as well. I actually ordered this beer twice cause I enjoyed it so much.

Clear orangey amber hue, good head formation. Fruity aroma, grapefruit an dpineapple. Light malt on the palate, spicy, grapefruit bitterness and mild pineapple juice. Mildly biscuity in the aftertaste.
