Commercial Description:
Each time we make this ale we pick a different single variety of hops and use them exclusively in the brew. The malt bill stays fairly consistent from batch to batch so as to allow the distinctive hop flavors to come through. Here are just a few of the hops used in the past: Simcoe, Vanguard, Sterling, YCR-004, Amarillo, Satus, Santium, Tomahawk, and Columbus. Available on draft seasonally.O.G.: 1.060;50 BU’S

Tap @ Catos in Oakland. A godlen color with a white head. I initially tried this after taking in a sip of Pliny the Younger and thought this was water. After a little time and cleaning the palate, the hops came through. Not a strong PA but easy to drink and enjoyable. A little thin with a dry grainy malt finish on the palate.

On tap@O’brien"s: Golden amber in color with a 1/4 inch (bar pour) white head. Aroma is lightly sweet with citrus. Flavor starts lightly grapefruity with a hint of pine finishing kinda dry with an orange peel bitterness. Hoppy and flavorfull without being over the top with hops.

The nose was big in citrus w/ hints of flowers and light fruit. The flavor was citrusy and flowery but light. The beer poured an orange / yellow color w/ slight head and very slight lacing. The mouthfeel was watery and thin flavored, light bodied and creamy.

Pours with a deep golden body topped by a thick, creamy head with a good amount of lacing. Wow, it’s hoppy as hell in both the aroma and flavor. Bitter piney notes prevail over slightly sweet grapefruit notes and a slight flowery note. The aroma is a little green with grainy notes. Medium to full bodied and slightly dry.

(Draft: O’Brien’s in San Diego, CA) The flavor is hoppy and moderately bitter, but with very little malt for balance, but I suppose that is intentional to showcase the hops. The light malt flavor is grainy, but I couldn’t taste it until I took a big mouthful. The finish is quite bitter. With the light malt presence, the light to medium body isn’t surprising, but the beer does seems a bit flat to me. Fresh hops nose is very nice. Medium gold in color and slightly hazy, but the beer looks totally still. White head pours to a quarter-inch in height and slowly fades to a sheen, leaving some patchy lacing here and there. It’s an okay beer, and I understand what Vinnie is doing here, but I’m not a fan of purely hoppy beers.

Poursa golden-orange hue with a halo of a head. Aromas of caramel, roasted malt, a little honey. Medium bodied with flavors of caramel, lager yeast, mild bitternss. A decent session ale and much better than russian rivers other single hoped brew, Dr. Zeus.
