DocLock (4102), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 13, 2005 Updated: Sep 4, 2008 Wow. A big thanks to Eric for tipping me off that this was at Ortino’s Northside in Zieglerville. The beer was brought in a pint glass, and presented a hazy gold/dark straw color with a one-finger white head. The aroma was dense and multi-layered, blasting my olfactory receptors with notes of heavy citric hops, honeydew, and tangerine. The aroma was amazingly close to Dreadnaught. Amazingly close! The flavor was also very Dreadnaughty, with the big hops, citrus including tangerine and orange zest, and honeydew. The finish was smooth and hefty on the palate, with more emerging fruit as it warmed. The major difference between this and Dreadnaught is that the latter is a bit sweeter and hotter. Otherwise, the two are very close. I loved this one. One of my favorite examples of one of my favorite styles.
peter (336), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 6, 2008 What a slap in the face. Golden pour with a soapy head. Nose is pine and grass, with some floral notes. Almost sappy. I was expecting a 120minute like experience, but there is some balance here. The malts add enough body to keep the hops in check, and make this a VERY enjoyable beer. 081308 bottling. It’s a really nice beer. The hops blend into the malt so beautifully. Nicely sweet with an awesomely hoppy bitterness. Great balance, there is a reason this beer is one of those "must have, everyone talks about it, no really will you trade me some, ISO, etc. etc. etc." beers. KieferUGA (318), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 5, 2008 500 ml bottle, courtesy of the kind and generous golubj. 071008 bottling. Oh my goodness, what a beer. Pours a clear, golden color. Large, foamy, fluffy white head. Tons of lacing. Beautiful aroma of pine, citrus. Flavor is a wonderful mix of floral hops and thick, sticky pine resin. Just the right amount of sweetness. Nice carbonation throughout. Long, bitter finish. This one is a knockout! spikester (413), Salem, Oregon, USA Sep 5, 2008 Enjoyed right after a Bind Pig from R.R. Probably should have waited until the next day for a proper eval. Oh well, that gives me a reason to buy some more. Huge cream colored foamy head with plenty of lacings. Very smooth drinker for the style. About as balanced as a DIPA can be. Aromatic, piney, orange pineapple resininous, pine needles, and alcohol is well hidden. What a treat. I wish I had a 15 gallon keg of this in a kegerator. I probably would never get my lawn mowed again. Or go to work! Bottled on date: 8-13-08. Bockyhorsey (1969), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottled on 081308 courtesy of FlacoAlto. Freash pine and citrus hit the nose and new this was good. Orange cooper body with white head. Flavor had the dry citrus vine along with enough grapefruit flavor as so not to feel too dry. Thirst quenching experience cool and crisp on the palate. Really enjoyed this one thanks Sebastian
