Commercial Description:
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle's legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

500-mL bottle. Pours yellow-golden with a large, lasting white head and plenty of lacing. Nice, strong pine-hop aroma. Flavor is a well-blended mix of woody bitterness, hop resin, and slightly sweet malt backing. Bit of tropical fruit and grass mixed in there. Excellent DIPA.

Well crafted and ridiculously drinkable for its strength. Pale Amber, nice head. Aromas of grapfruit and tobacco leaves.

Bottle from Cavie. Pours a sickly yellow with just a little bit of floaters. Huge pine hop aroma. The aroma writes a check the the taste can’t cash, but it’s still pretty good. Pine, hops, caramel, and a little citrus. Great mouthfeel with a warm alcohol finish.

Bottle in my secret Santa box from alagnak. Clear golden pour with tiny nodules of sediment floating in it. Aroma is huge hops, very fat and lush. Surprisingly smooth upfront for the amount of hops on the nose. Taste is smooth hops with a full richness to it. Very complex and quite enjoyable. Intense to say the least.

Bottle from Cavie. Smells extremely hoppy, but of course, its a double. It has a nice light golden color and is rather cloudy. So hoppy it made me sneeze 3 times. It has all the elements of a solid double IPA, but I haven’t acquired the taste for it yet.

Bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o garthicus. Pours a slightly hazy orange with an average size bubbly white head. Aroma: Fookin’ lovely! Lots of sweet, resiny hops along with citrus and tropical fruit. Delicious flavour is very hoppy but oh so easy to drink. Long bitter finish. Great body for the style. Simply amazing -- thanks for sharing garthicus, I’ve been wanting to try this for years!

Bottle thanks to Santa. Pours a bright orange color with a white foamy head that leaves nice full lacing. Nose is bright piny hop notes with a floral hopness. Palate is full, very bitter and quite active. Flavors of piney hop notes with a biscuity malt and a floral note.

This beer is wonderful. The pour is golden with an off white head and minimal lacing. The nose is hops (lots of them), pine, citrus, lemon zest, and bready malts. The taste is similar with some floral notes and orange as well as slight butterscotch. The palate is smooth and delicious.

500 ml bottle. My eyes have been opened. This beer could not have been better or more well crafted than it was. The hop character is sharp, citrus, pine, but is incredibly balanced with a mild malt sweetness. One of the most well balanced beers that really hit the palate perfectly. This beer was nothing short of amazing.
