lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA May 1, 2008 One hell of a birthday gift sent from a friend. Thanks! Poured from a 10 day old growler. I was worried about it holding up and wanted to get to this promptly and was momentarily worried, when I got no PSSSTTT sound when opening the growler. Poured into a tulip and the head vigorously formed, regardless. Poured a clear, golden amber color with a rich, incredibly long lasting offwhite head that left huge chunks of frothy lacing. Smell was huge piney, fruity, grapefruity, citrusy hoppy deliciousness. Taste is incredibly smooth and clean. Citrusy fresh hops and a hint of a slighly syrupy body, but still just barely medium to full bodied. The drinkability on this was phenomenal and the alcohol was hidden perfectly. Flavor was a touch milder than expected but was still divine and went down like water. Great double IPA.
colemgm8 (388), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Oct 12, 2008 bottle. purchased from South Bay Drugs... pours a dark golden w/ 1/4" white head which lasts throughout at a bit smaller size. wonderful aroma of piney hops. big full body which is incredibly soft over the tongue. really fresh hops dominate the beer with some other citrus fruit notes coming through as well. full of pine / grass notes. resiny feel on the back of the palate and a long bitter finish that lasts all night. incredible IIPA... lives up to the hype and deserves it all. mpersinger (32), , California, USA Oct 11, 2008 On draft many times at my local pub (RR): Pliny pours deep golden with slight white head that leaves lacing. Aroma is bitter grapefruit rind and mineral. Medium-body envelops. Flavor is rigid from overrripe grapefruit sweetness and grapefruit rind bite over a touch of honey. Touch of apricot leads an astringent finish compelling drinker to take another sip! m4rest88 (79), Beverly Hills, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Aroma is very fruity, grainy, hoppy. Sweet malt scent comes out as well, with little bits of hay.
It pours with a very clear amber hue under a frothy white head, that stays for quite some time, but then diminishes into nothingness.
The flavor is initially sweet and then goes into a medium-heavy bitter finish.
Medium mouth feel with light carbonation.
Great lacing! daknole (856), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 10, 2008 Finally I got to drink this...and it was worth the wait. WOW. Gold pour, nice white head. Nose is just pure hop heaven. Citrus hops, like a ripe pink grapefruit hits your nose and some nice pine aromas are there too. Flavor is just so damn juicy and good. Citrus hops bite you, mellow malt caresses you. This is one fine beer. MORE PLEASE! biz82 (1325), austin, Texas, USA Oct 9, 2008 Gold in color pouring resinous with low carbonation and a small head. Quite dank and resinous in aroma with peach, apricot, orange, passion fruit and a little green onion. Lighter in body than expected. Bright, clean hop flavor mostly of tropical fruit. Moderate bitterness. Good stuff and very drinkable.
