Commercial Description:
This Belgian style Strong Dark Ale has a tawny brown color and aromas of banana and spice that dominate the initial bouquet of the beer. Lean malt flavors blend perfectly with fruit driven characteristics created by the classic Belgian yeast which fermented this ale. The alcohol content is deceptively smooth just like its sister beer Damnation. Brewed just once a year for a release in January.

Bottle, thx Omhper! Dark colour. Special B-malt in aroma. Lots of banana, fruit and candy-esters. Slight harshness (perhaps from a slight overuse of Special B?). Wow, so good!

750ml bottle batch 005. Poured a dark brown almost black with a thin beige head. Light lacing was left on the tulip. Aromas of dark fruits, cocoa dust and toasted malts. Flavor had tons of dark fruits and banana with some spice and Belgian yeast on the finish.

25 oz bottle, Batch 001, via Odeed. Pours a dark amber body with a one finger fizzy beige head that retained as a thin film. Very strong pop of the cork, but no gushing. The nose is richly malty with lots of dark fruits, over ripe bananas, lots of yeastiness, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is pretty rich and dominated by the yeast character. Very fruity and spicy with banana and dark plum skins up front, then the alcohol seems to take over towards the finish. This almost seems like it’s a little over attenuated, leaving it feel a touch thin in the body and very airy for such a high ABV beer. When the fizzy spritzy carbonation combines with the high attenuation it makes it feel even lighter and more airy. A good bit of both alcohol flavor and warmth on the finish. This was a very nice beer, but I would like to try a more recent batch to see if it has a fuller body than this batch has now.

Murky brownish red color with a white head that has good retention and lacing. Smell is of dark fruit, clove, and pepper. Taste seems to remind me of Trois Pistole, in that it is a rather spicy Belgian Dark Strong Ale, and I also get the same clove and dark fruits in this. Light bodied with medium carbonation. Very well done, I’d like to give this another try.

Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Dark ruby brownish pour. Thick creamy white head, and a huge amount of lacing. Big apple cider tang in the nose, with a hazy, wheaty clove touch, and some slight chalky grain. Very rich flavors, full of thick, hearty fruits and banana, clove. Nice spicy, full bright finish. Very well-balanced, alcohol is nowhere to be found, and it’s very drinkable. Don’t think I’ll be having too many beers from Russian River that aren’t amazing.

750ml bottle(Batch 3)-A medium to dark ruby body with a nice tight small off white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, malt, sweetness, and caramel. Taste of sweetness, caramel, fruit, belgian yeast, and ends with a little bitterness. The alcohol is hidden very well on this full bodied brew. Nice tasting beer.
