Commercial Description:
This Belgian style Strong Dark Ale has a tawny brown color and aromas of banana and spice that dominate the initial bouquet of the beer. Lean malt flavors blend perfectly with fruit driven characteristics created by the classic Belgian yeast which fermented this ale. The alcohol content is deceptively smooth just like its sister beer Damnation. Brewed just once a year for a release in January.

2005 vintage tasted on 5/17/08, thanks to derkruk and crew! Once again a lovely dip into the Belgian world via Vinnie. Not as complex as others, the light fruit and slight dirt flavors blend together well overall in this one. A little hint of roast is hidden deep within as well. Good stuff, great aged.

Thanks again to Taverner for this bottle!!! This one doesn’t quite have the pillowy head of Perdition but the lacing almost makes up for its short-comings. 2-finger cashew-colored foam sits atop an almond brew. Aroma is a cross between a traditional Belgian Stong & Hefe. Banana, nutmeg, and a hint of clove are noticeable on the nose. Toasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, and belgian yeast again rear their head. The 9% is invisible, which of course, is awesome. Don’t let this one sneak up on you!!!

On tap at the brewpub in Santa Rosa. Dark chestnut with mahogany highlights and a thin, fine, lacey white head. Dark malt sweetness with some alcohol, "Belgian" fermentation characteristics, light banana, spice, and molasses. Flavor delivers more of the same along with some roasted smokiness, malt sweetness, and alcohol. The body is warm with alcohol that is still well-balanced despite being huge.

Bottle, batch #1 shared by beastiefan2k. Brown / amber clearish pour. Aroma is sugar malt, ripe fruit. The fruit is pretty nice in the flavor also, but overall the beer is too sweet and I didn’t notice any other complimenting flavors. Re-rate, June 2008, draft at the brewpub. Light brown / amber pour. Aroma is dark fruit, sweet malt, candy sugar, brown sugar. Flavor is the same with some alcohol and a little toasted malt presence.

Bottle Batch 1 at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Copper pour with a fizzy tan head. Nose is slightly oxidized. Old/over ripened fruits in the aroma. The flavor has some of those over ripened dark fruits, along with some spearmint character. Some residual spices are evident into the finish. I didn’t pick up much from this one; I want to revisit it for sure.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with 2 fingers of off white head around the glass. Flavor is fruity, belgian yeast, bannan, cinnamon, and other spices, and just a bit of etoh in the finish.
