Pours a clrear dark amber with a one finger lasting light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, spicy yeast, caramel, and cinnamon. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Very good. can8ianben (908), Pasadena, California, USA

Without knowing it came from central California, I would have never guessed it wasn’t poured from a trappist bottle. Reminded me of a Chimay red or something similar. Dark ruby red in color, loads of lovely noticable yeast and lacing. A thin sticky head with a lovely fruitiness in the aroma. Well done, bravo! GJF (512), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

This is superbly balanced with a candied sweetness, fruit, and yeasty spiciness. Rich and packed with flavor. Just pour me another! TeamTrappist (412), jericho, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 20, 2008 750 ml bottle. First glass poured with dark brown with a thin head, second glass poured with a bit more head. The nose had some spice, fruit and a hint of alcohol. Very nicely carbonated, with a nice mouthful. Complex and smooth flavors with a real authentic belgian flavor.Nice bit of sweetness in the finish, but definitely not too sweet. Sort of in between an achel extra and a rochefort 8. From the few RR beers that I have sampled, they really seem to get things right! Braudog (3774), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Pitch black, well laced. This is making me wish I’d scheduled a whole day here. Raisin, licroice, sweetness. Deliciously balanced. Sweet, but not too much. Mildly bitter, but again, not too much. Tip-toeing along the balance beam the whole way, this comes out exceptionally. (#3404, 4/10/2008) corby112 (766), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is a balnce of maltiness and crisp and dark fruit. Very quaffable well balanced beer. Dark fruit flavor is excellently balanced by a healthy amount of malt. timfoolery (484), California, USA

I’ve always heard great things about Russian River, and the verdict is now in. I found salvation in this brew. An excellent example of the genre. Great dark-fruit flavor and fullness. Lots of head. Great brew. ChazMania (415), Pasadena, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 26, 2008 Bottled from batch 005. I bought this at Ledgers in Berkeley while on a trip to N. Calif.
Really tight cork, could not twist it off, I needed to use my wine opener! Pours really nice and the spicey aroma made my nose happy and I knew I’m in for a treat. The flavor is huge, malty and just enough dark fruit. It’s a very complex beer and I’m not sure I can label all that I’m tasting but it really lasts for a long time. If this had good availability in my area, I think it would enter my regular rotation! Great beer.
