Commercial Description:
This Belgian style Strong Dark Ale has a tawny brown color and aromas of banana and spice that dominate the initial bouquet of the beer. Lean malt flavors blend perfectly with fruit driven characteristics created by the classic Belgian yeast which fermented this ale. The alcohol content is deceptively smooth just like its sister beer Damnation. Brewed just once a year for a release in January.

750 ml corked/caged bottle. Batch 004. Poured a clear brown-orange color. Head was off white and left some lace behind. Aroma was of toasted bread with whiffs of black licorice and a hint of alcohol. Ample carbonation, but a bit thin. Slightly sweet on the tongue with white wine, clove, and subdued brown sugar flavors. Pretty good stuff.

Thanks for sharing general gao. The body was dark brown. The aroma was caramel with some light apples. There was also a little bit of old port. The taste was funky and vinous with a woody finish. I got a little bit of cherry in the beer. This is very interesting.

Dusty, malty aroma. Reddish brown color. Woody with roasted malt, cinnamon and bread. Good. Thanks to General Gao for this one.

On tap @ RR. Beautiful pour like the color of a prune (in a good way) with a halo of a tan head. Nose is dried fruit, molasses. Flavor is as the aroma, with a touch of candied & brown sugar. Great brew that hides the % very well. Very smooth and easy drinking. Reminds me of an easier drinking Chimay Blue.

Poured deep amber with a thick white head. Smells of caramel, fruit, and banana. Tastes about the same, with pickles and pears added. Strong ABV for 9%, I’d guess this more at 11-12%. Went down thin but with a good burn. Fun but odd.

bottle.....pours a bubbly dark brown with decent tan head....nose of sweet dark malt, some biscuity yeast and a little fruit....tastes of caramel, some chocolate that mixed well with some mild tartness that works its way in. finish is yeasty and funky and a little bit tart.....nice mixture of flavors in a nicely brewed belgian ale.

On tap at Russian River brewery up north. Yummy stuff right here. Deep brown color with nice amber edges and a sticky vanilla head that makes this beer look delicious. Aroma has notes of pear, raisin and banana, followed up by the Belgian yeast that gives it that anticipation of taste. Brown sugar and dark fruits take hold of the flavor, finishing damn smooth on the palate. Alcohol is definitely well-hidden as it claims to be. Thumbs up right here.

My new absolute favorite. Just the right balance of taste and personality. A stand out.
