Commercial Description:
This Belgian style Strong Dark Ale has a tawny brown color and aromas of banana and spice that dominate the initial bouquet of the beer. Lean malt flavors blend perfectly with fruit driven characteristics created by the classic Belgian yeast which fermented this ale. The alcohol content is deceptively smooth just like its sister beer Damnation. Brewed just once a year for a release in January.

Bottle courtesy of iowaherkeye. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of spices (clove and something else I can’t quite figure out...). Flavor is spicy initially and then some roasted nuts and smokey notes make their presence as the beer warms. Tastier and tastier as I keep drinking. RR certainly makes some top-notch beers. Excellent beer, hardly even tastes like a typical BSA. 8/4/8/4/16 (4.0/5)

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Dominated by a musty, woody nose and flavor. Some nice sourness in the finish. Interesting Belgian strong. Pretty nice.

This bottle was part of my stash I had shipped from RR to a relative in Minnesota and then my wife brought it back in her luggage from Mn along with 11 other RR bottles. The things you have to do to get great beer when living in Pa. Batch 001. This beer poured a brilliant dark amber color with a slight tan head. The aroma is a bit malty, caramelly and with a touch of fruit, maybe raisins. You also get a bit of the abv in there. Very pleasing to my sniffer. The taste is big. There is a great malt backbone with more raisins and figs. I also got some toasted notes, a bit of chocolate. The body is medium and makes for a pretty drinkable beer, even with an abv of 9%. Another fine beer from RR.

750ml bottle batch 006 courtesy of swnicholson, thanks! Dark brown color with red tints where the light hits the edges with a solid foamy head. It smells like a fruity Belgian dubbel, apples, nice. Wow, the taste is malty, fruity and very delicious. This is complex much like the other RR beers I’ve had yet still easy to drink. 12/21/08 batch 007 nice, heavy black licorice at first, good flavor, I wish we got this and perdition in addition to the beers they currently distribute to Colorado. On tap at Belmont Station, Portland. Dark brown-amber with small head. Sweet ripe bananas, wheaty, fruity. Flavors of banana-flavored candy, cloves fruit, big malts. Became more alcoholic as it warmed.

[Bottle] brought back from S.F. Pours a deep brown with a medium, creamy tan head. Aroma is wheat malt, yeast, clove, some mustiness, and a touch of banana. Flavor is really interesting. It starts out sweet with some chocolate, prunes, and other dark fruits, and towards the back of the palate completely changes into a dry, somewhat bitter and chalky, and roasty beer. There is a hint of alcohol on the finish as well.

Pours a cloudy dark brown-black with no head. Odd cheesy aroma, coffee/latte. Tastes like a latte with more of that cheesy taste. Roasty chocolate. Thick body with decent carb. The cheese thing is a bit off-putting, but I like the chocolate notes. Odd.

750ml thanks to iowaherkeye. Pours dark amber with reddish hues, and a creamy tan head. Great retention and lacing. Aromas first and foremost, nuts, a huge nutty aroma. Other aromas include bread, dark fruits, yeast, and a slight alcohol burn, hardly enough to mention though. Flavors of sweet malts and dark fruits up front with a caramel and spice finish. Palate is nice and smooth, well carbonated. Thanks again Joey.
