jerk (13), North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2009 Pours a murky brown with a nice sized cream head. Aroma of cherries, brett funk and vinous notes. Flavor was very sour/funky, sour cherries, wet oak and vinegar. The finish is very tart and dry, nice carbonation. NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle Batch 3 from miketd. Pours murky brown, dissipating head. Nose is big and soft, lots of vinous type notes. Cherries are still vibrant in this one. Funky and sour nose. On taste, this is how to do a cherry sour. Softened acidity. The oak comes across to prop up the cherry notes. This is really a more refined version of the Cascade Sang Royal. More nuanced and pretty deep. Exceptional. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 8, 2009 Bottle from MRuesch. Thanks Matt! Hazy brown pour with a thick tan head. Bretty, vinegar, sour cherry, tart aroma. Tangy tart cherry taste with some vinegar tartness. Not much of a sour fan, but I thought this exceptionally well done. Gypsy19 (602), California, USA Sep 4, 2009 Batch 3. Poured a slightly cloudy orange, with just a little foam on top. Aroma is as expected: RR Sour-ness and a little light fruit. Flavor as expected again, but gladly with a little more complexity due to its medium amount of alcohol. In other words, it’s very similar to Beatification, but has a little more flavor simply because it’s slightly heavier. Palate medium, par. Overall, good. Top 50 material? No. shawnm213 (877), South Bend, Indiana, USA Sep 3, 2009 Updated: Sep 4, 2009Batch 3 bottle from glouglouburp. Thanks again for the sweet trade. pours an amber orange with a nice beige head. leaves some sparse lace on the glass. beautiful beer. aroma of cherries, leather, light bretty funk, cotton candy, caramel, and earth. Flavor is moderate cherry tartness, bread. well balanced, refreshing, nice bouquet opens up as it warms. awesome beer. wish i could drink this more often. sad that my bottle is now empty. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Sep 2, 2009 Stone Sour Fest 2009
Poured a murky amber.
Nose was of candi sugar and vinegar.
Taste was sour, plenty of vinegar to the point where it burns a little, and finishes with an odd residual sweetness. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 30, 2009 Been waiting on this one for a while, and tonight seemed like the night. Big (big) thanks to Bobby91w for this gem. Batch 3. Pours a reddish orange-copper, with a large, very dense head. The aroma is tantalizing. Dusty citrus, funk, lots of oak, not much of that pinot comes through. Hoo boy that’s delicious. The tartness lingers forever in your mouth, and what starts as a very acidic oaky citrus/cherry flavor ends up showing more of the pinot from those barrels, and more bitterness. If the sourness in here didn’t come across quite so harshly, this would be up with Deviation and Isabelle. As is, it exceeded expectations (which were high to begin with) - this is a damn tasty beer. sunevdj (1764), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Aug 26, 2009 Tasting at TAR’s. Batch 001. Pours a clear amber. Smells lightly sour. Sweet and sour with some bitterness. Light grassy and leathery aromas. Hints of alcohol. Medium bodied. Soft carbonation.
