cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jul 12, 2008 Updated: Apr 2, 2009Bottle at home Huge thanks to Doppelganger for bring this one round Hazy orange ... May not have had the time to settle ... light fruity slightly cider nose... aroma is quite pronounced and quite nice even if i cant quite place it ... yeah definit sourness... not really getting the cherrys and picking up a slight wine charactiristic. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 10, 2008 Serious carbonation in the bottle Sounded like a bottle of Mumm’s when I popped the cork, rather than a bottle of beer. Very pretty pour. Huge head which is lasting a pretty long time. You can hear the bubbles bursting. Dark orange body, bordering on amberish tones. Light fruity aroma, like a framboise. Nice sourness to this. Very winey flavor. When I saw the not about sour cherries I immediately thought about Quelche Chose, but its not as pronounced with the Bret/Ped bugs in there. This could REALLY grow on me. Too bad its so expensive :-) Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 8, 2008 Sampled at Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Had a funky aroma just couldn’t think of it till someone mentioned dill weed. Thought he was tarlking about me but no he dill you would smell cannng pickles. Orange body with off white head. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 7, 2008 Sampled at Bockyhorsey’s Bocky Bash Tasting on 7-5-08. Clear amber pour with a small foamy head. Aroma of vinegar, tart fruit, lemons and wood. Flavor is lemon, sour cherries and apples, wood and malt. Nicely carbonated. Refreshing, dry finish. Aroma is leathery, sour cherries, wood red wine. flavor is tart / sour cherries, red wine, wood, a little sweet malt, lemony finish. Very nice palate. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Warning: Open this bottle over a bowl so that when it overflows you can still pour it into your glass. I did not use a bowl so the table got to drink a few ounces.
Batch 002
Pours a hazy reddish-brown color with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Smell is very tart, there are aromas of cherries, but there isn’t a whole lot to them, predominant smells of sour and funk. This is not as sour as some other beers of this style, but that’s not the goal, the goal is to create a damn good brew and I would say mission accomplished. There are sour cherries in the taste as well, but it’s more of a vinegar-like sourness mixed with some oak and some grapes. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and had medium levels of carbonation, finish was dry. Extremely drinkable, I would have plenty of this often if I were given the chance. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jul 3, 2008 Updated: Apr 4, 2009Bottle in a trade. Pours a light brown orange body with a big white head. Aroma is cherries, sour funk and woodiness. Some lacto and pedi, sour brown ale, cherries, a nice tingly CO2 on the tounge. Lemon tart finish that quickly passes.
I just had this one a second time at monks in PA with Strasko, its a dam good beer but after seeing America at its best vs. various cantillon brew on draft, it fell just short. I was thinking 3.9-4.2 for a rating so i’ll leave it as is.
