realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA Mar 10, 2007 Bottle poured a clear light amber/red color with no head. The aroma was loaded with oak, cherry, wine, funk, funk and more funk. Taste was very tart and sour with a vinous oak flavor. The finish was a nice cherry mixed with a puckering brett taste that was just tame enough to enjoy. Overall not my style yet still very enjoyable. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Mar 9, 2007 Bottle- sorry J. A gusher. Barely got half a glass. The rest is all over the kitchen. So I’ve has sour brews that were overpowering (La Folie) and sour beers that were awesome (Cuvee de Tomme). This one is somewhere in between. A ltad bit overpowering, but finish is really nice and sweet w/ cherries. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Mar 4, 2007 Bottle from the RR store. Thanks. I have wanted to try this one for a really long time, for a few reasons: one - its from Russian River, and two - its a sour ale aged in red wine barrels. Plus the added bonus of some cherries! Pours a dark brown color with a thick yellow head that disappears as quickly as it forms. The smell is sour cherries, some red wine notes, but mostly it smells like you chopped open an oak tree and smell into the middle of it. Fantastic smell. Taste is full of sour and oak notes, with a little bit of cherries but mostly it is dominated by the pinot barrel flavor. Very light and easy to drink, this is really good stuff. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Mar 2, 2007 Tap. Well I am still not totally into this style. This one pours with a brown color. Aromas of cherry and citrus. Flavors are tart, not too sour but quite intense. Probably as sour as I can handle. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Feb 17, 2007 Pours with a bright amber body topped by a thin, fizzy head with little lacing left on the glass. It’s sour, tart and vinious with a sour cherry note and an underlying chocolate note that compiments the cherry very nicely. Light bodied, crisp and dry. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Feb 13, 2007 Fricken fantastic. Just a really well done beer that if handed to you in a glass not knowing what it was would just make you stand up and dance. Pours amber/copper with a tall white head. Very nice funky brett taste, earthy, musty, dry, with a sour finish. Cherries and wood shine in the high carbonation with a tart finish that keeps you fully refreshed thinking you might find a way to finish off that monster of a bottle by yourself, maybe tuck it under your jacket while no one is looking and go and hide under the porch and sip away in peace. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA Feb 13, 2007 Pours a brassy red with an open bubbled white head. The aroma is a sharp sour fruit. Cherry and other dark fruits with a brett based musty character. Great sourness and funky on the nose. The flavor is a mellowed tart fruit full of sour cherries and funky flavors. Sharp combination of vinegar, red wine, grapes, vinous, and saltiness. Even a funky fermented fruit with only a tiny hint of alcohol coming through. Mouth watteringly sour on the finish. Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Feb 11, 2007 Bottle @ Hamiltons. Had this right after a Beatification and this wins. I like the sours, the cherries and the lingering aftertaste of juice. Pretty much a perfect representation of the style. I was expecting my senses to be reeled, and they were. Could stand to see a 3L bottle of this at the homestead.
